Tent camping in bamboo structure
Not what I expected
We actually went out to get snacks and never went back. The platform where youâre supposed to sleep was rotten. My son put his foot through it within 5 min of our arrival. The pictures of the bathroom and shower facility arenât accurate. The weeds were so tall around the doors, and there wasnât even a path to them. It was nothing that 15 minutes with a weedeater couldnât have fixed. There was trash and tools laying everywhere. There was no driveway really or any place to park except a giant mud hole that I almost didnât get out of in a four-wheel-drive jeep. I took me two hours to find the place because the address given didnât show up on my GPS. BUT Zachary was very friendly and helpful and responded quickly to my texts. If youâre looking for an inexpensive out-of-the-way experience where you can start a fire and hang out with your buddies, this might be perfect. But it was more than what I was expecting.

Bamboo-structure was helpful against the wet weather up there. Zachary was really nice and helpful. Informations were clear. Driveway was still in the making, so a little muddy, but a close spot to get to the volcanoes national park.

Raised platform! Off grid! DUCKS!
I am a total sucker for raised platforms for tents. A covered raised platform??? Even better!!! Seriously though, this place has an amazing (and completely legitimate) off-grid feel with dark nights and a quiet road to get there. Zachary was an awesome host who greeted me and showed me around and even took time out of his night to introduce me to his ducks!!!! It was already perfect, but then ducks on top of that???? I would stay here again in a heartbeat

Beautiful place to camp/stay :)
Really great experience!
The host Zachary made sure we felt welcomed and showed us the lay of the land.
Camp setup is on a platform off the ground and covered to keep you dry while setting up camp and cooking. It also provided shade over the tent in the morning. Table with a double burner stove provided.
Has bathroom facility and showers.
Property is gorgeous. It was wonderful falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of the fern forest.
Zachary and his wife are developing their land as a farm that blends right into the landscape and they seem to have made great progress. Their ducks are friendly and their chayote squash are tasty :)
Definitely love supporting their goals and would love to stay there again.

This host is the absolute BEST. He was super flexible with our arrival/departure time, very communicative, and made finding the site easy. The best part was that he had a blazing campfire ready for us upon arrival!!! A totally pleasant surprise! We had plenty of privacy with the campsite and it was perfect for a quick overnight trip to Kilauea. I highly highly recommend staying here if you get the chance!
