Sleep under the stars on the slopes of the world’s largest active volcano, Mauna Loa. Located at 3700’ on a 250 year old lava flow, enjoy camping in a native forested lot that is accessible by 2WD vehicle. This is a great base location to enjoy activities on the south side of Big Island, including Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, Papakolea (Green Sand Beach), Punalu’u (Black Sand Beach), and Ka Lae (South Point). Break up your island wide cruise and spend more time in scenic Ka’ū, one of the last bastions of old Hawai’i. Mutiny Farms is 100% off-grid. There is currently no power available at either site. You will need to bring flashlights and rechargeable battery packs if you require any portable power. The property is about a 15 minute drive to Ocean View town center, and about an hour to Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. Ocean View is the only community between Captain Cook and Volcano with restaurants, grocery stores, and other amenities. There are dogs, cats, and peacocks living on the farm. There are a variety of native and food plants growing on the property. At this elevation, the climate can be quite chilly, so please come prepared for the weather. We are happy to provide guided adventures in your personal or rental vehicle, or provide information to enhance your adventure. Your booking helps us continue to improve the property, which is dedicated to food sustainability for the district of Ka’ū. Mahalo nui loa.Pitch a tent in a native forest amongst the ohia trees and other native Hawaiian plant species. Enjoy a small campfire in the designated fire ring. Some firewood is provided. There is a pit toilet and a flat tent spot, although due to the rocky terrain, sleep pads are highly recommended. The tent site is located about 200 ft away from the main house to provide privacy.

Mauna Loa Mauka
Overall a positive experience!
We had a great experience! The hosts are really kind and friendly and the site is in a beautiful location. The only reasons I had mixed feelings about recommending this spot was 1) it was louder in the early morning than anticipated with dogs barking/roosters crowing, and 2) the pit toilet did not have much privacy from the road/house/rest of the site. However, as a whole, the listing sets a very accurate expectation for the site.

Mauna Loa Mauka
The site was in a beautiful location, however, relatively close to the house, so light and sound could carry to the campsite. Kristina was very sweet.

K camp sucks
This place is a dump. construction debris, broken glass, beer cans, litter and trash. The toilet is discusting and they ran out of water, so no toilet. The dog bit me. worst experiance ever. DO NOT BOOK.

Peaceful!
Cute little spot perfect for a quick stop on your trip around the island!! It was so nice having a bed right after a very long day of traveling. The doggies were an extra bonus and we loved their morning visit. Thank you for sharing your space and beautiful view with us!

An amazing two night stay
Omg amazing stay the view was immaculate and the experience was surreal. With the lovely animal friends to the wide variety of plants Kristina has on the property. Her new peacock friends graciously blessed us with serene silence during our two night stay with them. Her pups were absolute angels as well. It was an added plus to have an outdoor shower and a lovely little kitchen set up we had access to. To top it all off, when we complimented her on how amazing our stay was, you could feel the love she poured into the property and her genuine generosity. Thank you Kristina
