I’m not sure, but I had fun!
The vegetarian meal is worth the price of admission. Seriously, as someone from a food/restaurant city, you could not find a 5 star Vegetarian/Vegan restaurant, and eat that well for less than 50$. Not in the US anyway. This place is stunning and you don’t need anyone or anything, if that’s how you roll. If you do want community, all you have to do is participate in one of the many ways to get your hands dirty. If you are a misfit, you will not feel that way at the hostel. If you’re not a misfit, you may not understand this place and its reason for existence. It’s not for everyone. You have to be ok with being super sweaty at all times and not having a toilet - there’s 2 compost toilets, but that’s to poop, if you make it, in the morning. There’s no AC - anywhere - not in the main areas like the kitchen or the front “lobby”. If you’re perimenopausal - you may have to go to your car for AC relief! The road to get to the parking lot is not safe for smaller cars or really anything that doesn’t have 4WD. I was told it’s part of the appeal- that it slows people down. It does do that for sure, but I’m not trying to start or end my trip getting stuck in the mud. They did accommodate me asking them if I could use an alternative road. I wish I would’ve know beforehand and why I’m leaving in the review. “Turn around, don’t drown” is the lowcountry’s motto - the hostel should consider this. Once in, all was perfect!

The staff and guests were such charming people that it really makes staying in the forest such a healthy atmosphere for those trying to embrace nature with a warm hug. Great unique home cooked meals for each of the 3 nights we stayed as well as thier sunday brunch. 5 stars all the way

I went here for my birthday and it was awesome! I enjoyed the lake that had kayaks and canoes set out for free use as of staying and it was a beautiful experience. The Hostel in the Forest felt almost like summer camp but in a free movement kind of a way as well as a group setting and coming together to share meals and stories. It was a lovely stay and I’m sure I will come again. There was an art studio and a meditation room that had silks in the rafters. The glass house was positioned upon a swampy lake and the view from inside was so magical. I like how much outside is integrated into inside and having most of the walls be netting or glass to bring more light in. I enjoyed the artistic structure of their home as well as the promotion of creativity itself. It is definitely the types of communities I wish I could see more of.
