Bucolic rural glamping in a beautiful natural beauty spot on the borders of Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

Set amongst 35 acres of re-wilded land on the borders of Wiltshire and Gloucestershire, Brandiers Farm - the home of photographers Kim and Peter Lavery – is a very special place. It's not only home a couple of lovely self-catering cottages, but also has a number of glamping options in its grounds, giving you the chance to explore and delight in what is a unique rural retreat, with self-contained grounds consisting of a walled garden, ponds and meadows, a lake and a tennis court, even a rustic lakeside bar.

The glamping here consists of three options, each positioned in its own field with its own private cooking area. In the middle field, 'Camp Brunhilda' is micro-site in its own right, made up of a a vintage 1975 VW campervan, sleeping 2, and an adjacent 3-metre bell tent, sleeping another couple. There's also a hammock, firebowl and a strategically positioned bed for star-gazing and nights outdoors, and Brunhilda is right next to the Farm's ‘Storytelling Circle’ , which has a camp fire, seating and outdoor cooking facilities. The top field is home to is a luxury 5-metre 'Bedouin Bell Tent', complete with wood-burning stove, king-size bed, low wooden tables, hand-woven rugs and cushions, and sleeping two lovers in total comfort. And finally there's the Showman’s Wagon in the bottom field –  a restored early 20th-century circus wagon with ‘gypsy-chic vibes and its own wood-burning stove, fridge and kitchen facilities, and sleeping 2 in a cosy alcove.

The toilet and bathroom facilities are shared, in a beautifully converted, wood-panelled horse trailer that comes complete with toilet, sink, washstand, hot water, electrical sockets, a shower room and 3 tin bath tubs. In addition to the toilet facilities, there is a covered kitchen for guests' use with fridge and freezer, in front of which is a unique lakeside bar – fully licensed and made up entirely of reclaimed and up-cycled materials. railway sleepers and tin from the old barn roof.

Dogs are welcome at Brandiers, as are children: the farm is a great place for kids, and there is lots to see and do,  including the lake (which has a boat for guest-use) and a very large rock for morning meditations and viewing wildlife – red kites, ravens, owls, buzzards, bats and badgers are all regular visitors. They run events – a professional storyteller lives on site and can provide entertainment on request – and  once the novelty of this beautiful natural haven has worn off,  it's nice to know that you're well placed for visiting nearby Cirencester and also just a five-minute drive from Cotswold Water Parks. There are also plentiful country walks, nature reserves and birdwatching spots nearby, while you are also close to two excellent country pubs that serve food all day.

Camp Brunhilda at Brandiers Farm
Loved being here. Totally wild and rustic but very comfortable with everything you need including a flushing loo and shower and bedding and a handmade tiki bar in the woods by a pond with lights and speaker for music. Fire pits at the campsite, woodland glade and bar. Magic for the kids. Close by to a great pub with very good food and a lovely garden, if you fancy seeing some other humans and civilisation! Really lovely hosts too- super helpful and relaxed and generous

Camp Brunhilda
Great outdoor experience.
Great place plenty of space for our grandchildren and their dog. Girls went on boat, great fun. Olly very friendly. Could do with a bit of a tidy up , cut back some of the stingers near the pathways. Bedding could have been cleaner. Plenty of hot water and use of fridge was good. Disappointed that Gas ran out mid cooking so had to cancel our breakfast. Overall a great experience.

The Bedouin Tent
Fantastic Experience
It was a fantastic experience for my family (including our 5-year-old) to stay at Brandier. The Bedouin Tent had everything we needed, it was a bit far from the Bar and the toilet/ shower room, very quiet and with comfortable privacy. And the site is close to Cotswold water park. Olly and his family were all very nice and helpful. Would love to stay at Olly’s again.

The Bedouin Tent
Going back as soon as we can
What a magical place. My kids loved it. Such a great first camping experience for them. They felt like they were in the wilds of wiltshire! The campsite was lovely all the basics covered, very comfortable and cosy even when it rained. There is a bar down by the lake which is a lovely place to spend the early evening before cooking over the coals. Hosts were super friendly and provided lots of information about the area and things to do. We will be going back asap

From the host
Brandiers Farm is set amid 30 acres of re-wilded arable land, consisting of a patchwork of wildflower meadows, lakes, ponds and woodland. It is the home of the Lavery family, who over 30 odd years have transformed ‘Brandiers’ from degraded agricultural and grazing land into a fertile haven and micro nature reserve. We work closely with the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and Brandiers is now home to many rare and protected species. You are likely to see red kites, ravens, owls, buzzards, bats, badgers, hares and great-crested newts as well as deer, ducks, dragonflies, grass-snakes, moorhens and a whole host of butterflies including the critically endangered marsh fritillary. There is a large lake with a boat for you to paddle out on, as well as a lakeside bar where you can pour yourself a tipple and sit and watch the wildlife on the water, and even a very large rock for your morning meditations and sun salutations. Brandiers is home to only one, private campsite consisting of a vintage VW camper van, a luxury 5 metre bell tent with wood burning stove, and a smaller 3 metre bell tent, complete with hammock, fire pits, table and a lakeside bar. The camp sleeps 4 - 6 people, and guests may provide their own additional tents at extra cost. Toilet and bathroom facilities are in a beautifully converted, wood clad horse box trailer. Aside from being a nature reserve, the site is brimming with local history, once being at the centre of an Iron Age enclosure, and then a Roman settlement. Indeed Brandiers is an excellent base for exploring the nearby Roman town of Cirencester; the gateway to the Cotswolds, as well as the Cotswold Water Park with its swimming and leisure facilities right on your doorstep.
Nearby attractions
There are many walks you can take from Brandiers.Up to the lovely village Church in Upper Minety (10 minutes)Down the public right of way to Flisterage Wood (30 minutes) this an ancient woodland of mainly oak trees and part of what was once part of the ancient Braydon Forest. A truly magical place. A carpet of bluebells in spring, and a sea of gold in autumn. If you fancy a pub walk, there's the village pub in Oaksey (45 minutes). You can walk (or drive - 5 minutes) to the lakes of the Cotswold Water Park, where there are many leisure and sporting facilities. Sailing, fishing, kayaking, swimming, cycling, archery, paint balling - the lot. You may have to battle with the tourists though. You will be pleased to have your private idyll to return to! By car, you can explore Cirencester, the 'Gateway to the Cotswolds' (20 minutes) it has an excellent museum and market and many pubs. This was the regional Roman capital of Corinium and is steeped in history. This is your launch pad to the wider Cotswold region with its many little villages, hills and and towns. Other historic market towns nearby are Tetbury and Malmesbury (20 minutes). Both great places to grab a coffee and wander the high street, browsing the many antique stalls. Nearby too is Charlton park, where WOMAD is held every year.Slightly further afield is the vibrant and progressive town of Stroud, as well as Minchinhampton Common (35 minutes). A great place to walk, where you can see all the way to the Brecon Beacons over the Severn Estuary.Or, go South, to Avebury (35 minutes) and have a drink in the Red Lion pub, inside the largest pre-historic stone circle in the world, or, a little further, the world famous Stonehenge itself.
Food and drink
In terms of local supermarkets, shops and delis...There's a good, big Waitrose just outside Malmesbury and one in Cirencester, which also has a Tescos, an Aldi and a produce market in the town centre on most days. Just outside Cirencester is the also the 'Organic Farm Shop', selling excellent farm produce with a deli and cafe on site as well. The 'Jolly Nice Cafe' on the way to Stroud also hosts a farm shop, restaurant and cafe in its large Yurts with log burning stoves. A nice place to walk. For pub lunches locally you cant do much better than The Potting Shed, just 5 minutes away in Hankerton. The Wild Duck at Ewen and The Tunnel House in Coates were good local eating options, but under refurbishment at the time of writing. Do check first. The Weatsheaf in Oaksey has a cosy bar with fireplace and a restaurant round the back. You'll need to book. The Horse and Groom in Charlton has a large beer garden. For more 'cheap and cheerful' options there's the White Horse in Minety, and The Tavern in Kemble, which practically on the railway platform (great if you're getting the train) and the Thames Head nearby is unfussy too. Finally, the hidden gem that is The Marlborough Arms on Sheep Street in Cirencester. This is a drinker's pub. No food. Just a great range of well kept beer and cider and good company. No pretence here. A proper pub. Go here if you visit the Corinium museum.
