10 acres of blissful bell tent and gypsy caravan glamping near Thetford Forest in Norfolk

Like all the best glamping sites, it’s difficult to pin down any one thing that makes Oak Lodge Glamping so special. Even the setting is difficult to describe. It’s not a meadow, yet not a forest, with a scattering of trees providing shade and shelter but still ample, open space. Children love it, with room to run wild and play games, while it also creates a real sense of seclusion as trees nicely divide up the different pitches. Every spot feels private and has its own little mix of sun and shade, yet you never feel hemmed in.

In total there are nine 6m (6 person) pre-pitched, creamy bell tents on the site, furnished inside with mattresses, bedding anda few homely items like freshly picked flowers, coffee tables and a small chest of drawers.

Every morning at 10am is Animal Hour where you can come and experience feeding and petting the animals. You can also hose down the pigs, hand feed the goats and chickens and say hello to the snake. Animal Hour is run by Mathilda, who can tell you all about the animals. This is a great experience for all children to get up close to all sort of animals, native and not, and it’s for children of all ages!  Our animals cost a lot to look after so we have listed this experience as an extra that you can choose when booking. The cost is £15 per tent and you can join in Animal Hour as many days as you would like to.

We now also provide Livery Stays so why not bring your horse or pony along, to enjoy off road riding straight from the campsite on to miles of tracks through the Norfolk farmland and countryside .We can offer a well fenced paddock with Newmarket standard post and rail fencing at 4′ high, mains water trough and with or without a field shelter. We have a menage area that is fenced and made from the sand from our own field so fairly free draining. Our area boasts sandy soils so all weather riding is possible, and there's plenty of room for secure horse box parking.  Please email for further details.

Along with old rope swings and special wildlife lookout areas, wisps of smoke indicate that campfires are all a part of the fun here. Every pitch has a firepit and outdoor furniture and a few complimentary logs are supplied on your arrival. If you run out of marshmallows there’s a tiny village post office in Northwold (1 mile away) handily placed next door to the local pub. You can buy a few goodies there for making your evening smores. Or you can gather a little more on any day trips you take. Oak Lodge Glamping has a pretty central Norfolk location, meaning that, beyond the local cycling routes in Thetford Forest and the River Great Ouse, days out in Norwich and exploring the North Norfolk Coast are also less than an hours' drive away.

6m Bell Tent - 5
Amazing place for couple nights with 2 kids and 2 dogs. Tents quite far away from each others so it’s giving you some privacy. Well equipped tents, including plates, cups and other cutlery, so you don’t need to bring your own. Very clean toilets and shower areas. Also you can use oven and kitchen appliances, plus fridge and freezer available for use. You can do open fire 🔥 and logs available in the park. Definitely back again soon.

Unique break in beautiful setting
We stayed as a group of 20 family members for my mum’s 70th birthday from 26-29 August. We had a brilliant time and the hosts were so welcoming and friendly, regularly checking that we had everything we needed and arranging lovely thoughtful surprises. The daily animal experiences were such a hit with all of the kids as was the plane in the tree!! Everything was thought of and we had a lovely, relaxing stay in a really unique, beautiful setting. Thanks Maeve & family!

Brilliant hosts, peaceful, relaxing
Brilliant stay at Oak Lodge glamping for my Mum’s 70th birthday this weekend. Kids absolutely loved everything about it. The daily animal shows were brilliant and we didn’t get the young lady’s name who ran them but she was so knowledgeable and great with the kids. Everything was thought of and we loved every minute. We will definitely be back

Glamping under the stars
Great experience, the site had good provisions (toilets, showers, hot water). Plenty to do for kids in a safe closed off area. Very dog friendly (although we didn't take our own). Loved the fire pit and barbeque facilities. Visiting the on site animals was nice - Shetland pony was very cute and cheeky! Plenty of fridge space. Bring food and plenty of charcoal! Weather was great for our stay, lovely clear starry nights.

We loved our stay at the Oak Lodge Glamping site. There are lots to do with the kids, very unique playing areas. Natural woodlands for them to roam around in, which is such a change from our busy London life. Clean tents and toilet/shower areas, lovely outdoor cooking area as well welcoming people on site. The feeding animal hour in the morning was an extra bonus and kids enjoyed alot! Will come back again!

Oak Lodge Glamping is a peaceful 10 acre meadow site situated in beautiful Norfolk countryside near the Thetford Forest. It’s perfect for people who want the outdoors and back-to-nature experience, but with a little bit of luxury. With us, you will get pre-erected bell tents with comfortable real mattress beds and homely décor. The bell tents are pitched in among the trees on level ground and each tent has its own firepit. There are only 9 tents on the 10 acre site so there is plenty of space to relax, play and enjoy. We provide a communal kitchen, luxury showers and toilets. We supply each bell tent with some complimentary logs for your first camp fire (extra can be purchased on site). Our on site shop sells local produce including local honey and fresh eggs, grilled paninis, tea and barista coffees and cold drinks; you can buy kindling and firewood for your outdoor feasts as well. The campsite is away from a busy main road, the perfect place for adults to relax and unwind, for kids to explore and run around, and for pets to enjoy. There is plenty for children to do at Oak Lodge, and every morning at 10am is Animal Hour where you can come and experience feeding and petting the animals. The cost is £15 per tent per stay so you can join in Animal Hour as many mornings as you would like to. Want to come as a family group? We welcome families and can allocate you tents in the same area, or you can hire the whole site. Just let us know what you are planning!

Bring bikes for a little rural exploration. This part of Norfolk is full of back-country churches and old village pubs. For something more structured, there's a Go Ape! (08450 949732) in Thetford Forest 12 miles away – climb high and low rope courses and zipline through the trees – and there's also High Lodge Forest Park (03000 674400), with marked woodland walks and cycle hire available. Budding anglers can take their rods to Fendicks Fishery where there are no fewer than 5 well-stocked fishing lakes. It's only a 10-minute walk from the campsite.

Food and drink

It's 6 miles to The Crown Hotel (01842 878233) – a favourite local pub – which is family friendly with lovely gardens. The Bedingfield Arms Hotel (01366 328300) is marginally closer though, in Oxborough, and serves excellent food. Cute little Bulldog Barns tea shop & antiques (01366 728083) is only a mile away and The Good Earth fish and chippie in Stoke Ferry is around 3 miles (01366 501163; open Mon–Sun, 11.30am–11pm).
