Looking for a place where you can camp, glamp and campervan together with friends? The Sunnyfield is the place.

Tents and campervans are equally welcome at The Sunnyfield Campsite in Kent. Groups are allowed, dogs are permitted and there’s glamping in bell tents too. The ethos of hosts Sasha and Philip has always been to encourage everybody to enjoy a simpler life – however they choose to camp. Their Sunnyfield boasts a hilltop position that's blessed with sunlight all day long (hence the name). It’s an off grid site in a rural Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty so the night skies are predictably dark and starry and the hedgerows are teeming with life. Owls hoot at night, birdsong greets you in the morning. There's no traffic noise here as you're far off any main roads. Here, in the rolling Kent Downs, you may only be an hour south of London but, as you sit around the campfire, you feel a world apart.

Arrival is tinged with anticipation as you wind your way through lanes edged with cow parsley and long grass. When you pull through the gate, you’re greeted with a generous open space for 30 pitches of various sizes and a car-free site that’s perfect for kids. Glampers have their own fully-furnished bell tents, complete with bedding, cooking kit and a fire pit. They can be positioned on their own or pitched next to friends with their own tents. Let Philip and Sasha know what you need and they’ll do their best to help.

Refreshingly understated, ablutions consist of cleverly-converted horsebox showers and compost loos. Drinking water taps and washing-up stations are conveniently dotted around the site. At its heart, this remains a simple site in a largely unadulterated meadow, but a few well-chosen additions over the years have enhanced the camping experience. Philip roasts his own coffee and serves it in the mornings at The Sunnybean Cafe, weekend massages and facials are on offer in the old barn and there's the occasional yoga session too. Perhaps, the biggest weekend crowd-pleaser, though, is the availability of wood-fired pizzas in the farmyard, a stroll down the lane.

You have everything you need in this secluded setting, including walks and cycle rides on the doorstep. But those willing to re-emerge from their cocoon in the countryside will find themselves poised to make the most of the south east. By car, the beaches of Sandgate, Folkestone and Dymchurch are less than half an hour away, while historic Canterbury is just a 15-minute drive.

Grass pitch
Quiet, spacious & green
We loved camping at Sunnyfields. We picked a spot right by the big oak tree, complete with a swing. It was our little one’s first time camping (1 year old) and she loved it. Lots of safe space to roam and play. Philip was super responsive and lovely to chat with. The hot horsebox shower was a real treat! A campfire on our last night was the perfect medicine before heading back to London. We will be back!

Grass pitch
Beautiful site, lovely pitches, not too crowded, good washing and shower facilities. Composting toilets the only downside really, but manageable. We had a great time though and we hope to return next summer!

13 - Bell tent - Glamping Bell Tent
The campsite was very lovely and located close to Folkestone, which we enjoyed, HOWEVER we felt disappointed with the bell tent, considering the price. It was very tired looking (rips, stains) and needed an update with the interior design unfortunately. Had we paid half the price we wouldn’t have felt this way but considering two nights cost close to £300 we felt underwhelmed. If you’re camping with your own tent you’ll have a great time

Grass pitch
Wonderful place to camp
The site was beautiful, tranquil, and child-friendly. I especially liked the rustic charm of the facilities – it added to the unique character of the place. The pitches were spaced out enough that I could barely hear my neighbours. I loved that cowboy fires were allowed. I highly recommend the pizzas; they were amazing. There is lots to do in the area; we barely managed to scratch the surface, so we will definitely be back. I highly recommend this place.

The Sunnyfield campsite welcomes everyone how ever you like to camp. Set in 8 acres of unspoilt meadow in an area of outstanding natural beauty the Sunnyfield sits at the top of a small valley looking across to the farms and sunset on the other side. You'll be camping surrounded by wild flowers and grasses. Philip and Sasha have cleverly mown out beautiful path ways and pitches to individual spaces where you can feel away from it all. If you like to camp but your friend wants to clamp we can easily make sure your camping next to each other even if your friend has a camper van. We are a tents, campervans glamping campsite for lovers of real camping and their families. Our simple car-free meadow camping pitches are large and spacious and come with their own camp firepit. We welcome groups – it's a great place for groups of friends to get together. Wheel barrows are provided to take your kit to your pitch, hot showers are provided in horse boxes, we have our wood-fired pizza oven in operation usually one of the nights over weekend and delicious coffee available mornings in the recycled shed - we only use coffee that's roasted 3 miles away and milk from local diary 4 miles away ! The Sunnyfield Campsite is nestled in the heart of the Kent Downs, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and close to the coast. Surrounded by idyllic countryside, overlooking fields, a valley and teeming with wildlife all around. It is a stress-free environment, a great place to unwind and just relax. This beautiful site provides access to fantastic walking and biking from your doorstep with the nearby North Downs Way and excellent cycle routes. Alternatively you can just relax and enjoy the peaceful and secluded location. Being in the "Garden of England" we are surrounded by an abundance of delicious local produce to enjoy whilst watching the sun going down.
Nearby attractions

Take the short journey to one of England's most venerable cities, Canterbury, with its historic cathedral, ancient walls and fantastic museums. There is plenty to make for a good day trip, including punting on the river or weekend events in the Dane John Gardens. Heading south will take you to the coast at Folkestone, Dover or Hythe, the front to continental Europe and full of nautical history. Dover Castle is an iconic structure above the white cliffs, while further east Walmer Castle is also worth a visit (both are English Heritage). Dymchurch beach stretches along the edge of Romney Marsh which eventually reaches the shingle promontory of Dungeness, a strange but interesting site for a convivial little community. Closer to home, forget the car and enjoy The Kent Downs, perfect for cycling and walking with the notable North Downs Way passing close to the campsite.

Food and drink

Homemade wood-fired pizzas are available in the farmyard (part of site, but a short stroll down the lane) at weekends and there's home-roasted coffee from Philip's Sunnybean Cafe. There is a great village shop in Stelling Minnis and the local garage at the top of the lane has the basics. An abundance of fresh produce is available from the local farmers' markets in Wye (six miles) while Perry Court Farm Shop (seven miles) serves amazing apple juice and veg with fish fresh off the boats from the coast on Friday and Saturday. Potten Farm Shop (six miles) is another local gem. There are excellent pubs near the campsite, the closest are The Bowl Inn in Hastingleigh (just over two miles), which serves a great choice of local ales, sandwiches and Ploughmans (on selected days) and The Timber Batts in Bodsham. There's also The Tiger Inn in Stowting, The Five Bells in Brabourne (both about four miles) and The George and The Hop Pocket, both en route towards Canterbury.
