Your own private camping field for the weekend – in Devon's Blackdown Hills

Ever dream you could take over an entire campsite for the weekend? Well, here’s your chance. Hux’s Exclusive Camping Site allows you to do just that – whether you are camping with just one significant other or with a significant bunch of friends. This five-acre field in Devon’s Blackdown Hills is available for private hire by between one and 40 people who simply want to camp without neighbours.

This exclusive-hire campsite is part of the smallholding run by Hux (AKA Helen Huxtable) and her partner not far from Honiton. This young and friendly couple are happy for you and your crew to use their lovely field. They’ve simply mown a place to pitch tents, dug a fire pit and put a bench in a strategically-positioned spot for watching the sun go down. It’s simple stuff but if you simply want a place to get away from it all, this is perfect.

A single flushing loo and a single shower are the sum total of the facilities here and can be found a short walk away down at the stables. On your way there you might bump into some of the goats, chickens and pigs who are more permanent residents on site. It’s a lovely rural site and you may well be happy catching up around the campfire for the duration of your stay but if you do want to head out for supplies, Honiton is nearby. This Devon market town has plenty of independent shops as well as museums and galleries if you’re looking for something to do. There’s plenty of walking in the Blackdown Hills and the beaches of the south Devon coast are less than a half-hour drive. But we’ve got a feeling that if you book this private pitch, you won’t be wanting to leave.

Exclusive use of a private field in the rural countryside We also have an electric car charger point you are welcome to use at cost.

Nice Quiet camping spot
Tent · Group trip
Fire pit is well sized and we fit 17 people around it, though it is maybe tucked into the corner a bit too much. When we went only a portion of the field was mown, the rest was long grass, so it wasn't really usable, but we did have enough room to pitch 8 tents and a volleyball court. The toilet and shower are clean, as there is an electric shower the hot water doesn't run out, but you're not getting the hottest shower regardless. Owners are friendly and the field is very private so you hardly see them while you're there.

9 of us stayed on this campsite for a week and had a very good experience. The owners were happy to leave us be for us to enjoy our holiday and we’re happy to help us if we did need anything. Nice and usable facilities. We will be looking to book again for next year.

Brilliant experience
Tent · Group trip
We had a brilliant experience, the campsite is a great size for a large group of people and has all the necessary facilities. The campsite is in a nice location, not too out of the way but still relatively isolated. Some nice woodland nearby to explore and the shops are a short drive away to pick up food for a BBQ at the fire pit supplied. The owners were great hosts and very helpful when one of our cars broke down. They also let us feed the farm animals and gave us some fresh free range eggs! We will probably be back next year!

Hux’s Camping @ Hill Farm caters exclusively for one group at a time, which means you get the whole site to yourself! If that is just for the two of you or for a group of families, the site is for you to enjoy on your own terms and in private. We cater for upto 10 pitches under one booking We are a friendly couple with a young family, with a love of Devon and the countryside. We love where we live and think it’s a perfect spot to explore this stunning area of East Devon. We aren’t farmers but have a smallholding, with Chickens, Goats and Pigs. We have a secluded field that is ideal for camping and we hope that you enjoy the site as much as we do. Recycling We do not have business waste collection, so please take your landfill rubbish home with you. This includes broken camping equipment! We are happy to recycle glass bottles, plastic bottles, cans, cardboard, and food waste with relevant bins being provided for you.
Nearby attractions

Hux’s Exclusive Campsite is in the Blackdown Hills. There are plenty of scenic places to walk here. A nearby good one is Dumpdon, once the site of an Iron Age hill fort – and a great viewpoint. The market town of Honiton is less than three miles away and home to independent shops. It’s famous for lace, antiques and pottery. You can find out more about the town and its trades at its small museum. The south coast of Devon at Sidmouth and Branscombe is about 11 miles from the campsite. If headed for Sidmouth, you might like to pop into The Donkey Sanctuary too.

Food and drink

The closest pub to site is The Honiton Inn at Awliscombe, just over a mile away and there’s more choice in Hontion itself (three miles). The Vine Inn combines a pub menu and afternoon teas and The Holt is great for a special meal out. There are plenty of independent shops and supermarkets if you want to pick up supplies for cooking on the campfire.
