Simple tent camping in the farming village of Damerham with fine views and easy access to the New Forest National Park

Despite being a new site, Jubilee Camping – located a mere 10 minutes from the New Forest National Park – has taken old-fashioned, traditional camping principles to heart and applied them to perfection. The site's owners, Alison and Dave, understand that campers want to let their kids roam around making dens and getting muddy. They understand the importance of a crackling campfire. And they understand that today’s campers don’t want to share these moments with big motorhome monsters and rows of caravans. It’s no surprise then, that we think this killer combination of space, campfires, and a tents-only rule, makes Jubilee prime camping territory.

Consisting of little more than a four-acre field, the camping area – with 60 generously sized, 10 metre-squared pitches – is firstly, fantastically spacious. Due to its impressive size, the flat field never feels overloaded and there's always plenty of space for family fun and ball games. Surrounded by trees and with countryside views, there's a gravel track along one side of the field for easy access and a fence along the other, with livestock nuzzling along its base as they graze the longer grass that grows there. In fact, the land was previously a Hampshire dairy farm but is now occupied by a mixture of beef cattle and recreational horses.

Washing facilities – housed in bespoke wooden-clad units built on skids – are impeccably clean and simple, but that's all part of the charm of Jubilee; a real throwback to the halcyon days of old-school, unfussy camping. Simple extras include washing up sinks and a well-pressured water supply to the camping field, but there's no electricity and mobile signal is limited – although it can normally be found somewhere in the field.

With a wealth of things to do within easy driving distance – notably the New Forest's web of walking and car-free cycling trails – plus, Jubilee's humble and easy-going atmosphere, this is one of the best camping options in the region for traditional campers. Pity it's only open for 28 days in the summer...

Jubilee camping is a quiet and idyllic rural getaway situated in the village of Damerham, nestled on the Hampshire/Dorset border and 5 miles from the New Forest National Park. It is perfect for country pursuits (Fly and Carp Fishing both within a couple of miles), cycling, horse riding, and fine dining, and within easy reach of Salisbury, Southampton, and Bournemouth. Our campsite offers 100 (a few more for Bank Holidays) generously sized 10 metre-squared camping pitches spread out throughout the large site, with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. You have ample space for one car and a good sized family tent, however additional car parking is available if required. Basic amenities are provided, i.e. water points, toilets and hot showers, but in addition you may wish to book one of our cosy fire pits with a supply of wood, either to cook on or simply as a warming focal point to sit around and toast marshmallows. Visit the local shops in either Sandleheath or Cranborne, just 3 miles away, or there are small supermarkets and all manner of other amenities in the town of Fordingbridge, 4 miles away. Damerham is an active farming village and offers beautiful local walks; along the stream and up to the little church, and is also home to The Compasses Inn - a popular country pub serving superb lunches and evening meals (booking is advised).

Grass Pitch
It was nice but a few improvements
Not enough toilets and because the site was so busy they were quite busy. Only a few showers as well, we went later in the day but the water was then cold.

Beautiful campsite, perfect trip!
The campsite is in a beautiful part of the country and is very picturesque. The hosts Alison and Dave are very welcoming and always happy despite their busy jobs (working farm). The food hut and bar are a great touch over the weekend. They weren’t open during the week, but that wasn’t an issue for us. Dave regularly hitches his tractor to a trailer that is used to ferry guests around to feed all the animals, kids and adults loved it. This will be our regular site from now on!!!

More Grass Pitches
A simple practical site. Lots of space. Clean Loos & showers, a cafe in a double decker bus serving simple but excellent evening meals and breakfast rolls with tea and coffee. Bar in a shack. Cant comment on the overall choice but the real ale (local) was excellent. Pub in Damerham walkable if you fancy eating out. This is our second visit to this site and we will be back for more!

Fantastic camp site
Fantastic camp site - we loved it. Lovely big fields with lots of space so tents weren't on top of each other. Toilet and shower facilities were good. Toilets always well-stocked with loo roll and hand wash. Alison and her team were great, nothing was too much effort. And they very kindly blew my bed up for me and charged my battery power. Wood is delivered straight to your camping area on a daily basis which is great. We will definitely be returning and can highly recommend Jubilee camping

Grass Pitch
Brilliant camp site with lots of space. Nice food cooked at the bus, particularly recommended the stone baked pizzas! Short walk to the Compasses Inn which is a nice little pub with a decent garden. Clean toilets and showers. Definitely recommended staying here.

Jubilee Camping offers a 25-acre campsite, including two Wild Woodland camping areas for exclusive Family group hire (no adult-only groups), each with their own focal firepit. It's located on the edge of the New Forest in the farming village of Damerham, with easy access to beautiful country walks, historic visitor attractions, fine dining and family days out.
Nearby attractions

Cycling is the best way of experiencing the surrounding countryside; be it the New Forest or Cranborne Chase – both are within easy pedalling distance. You could even cycle to the Sixpenny micro-brewery in Cranborne (01725 762006), and enjoy one of their award-winning real ales in the Tap Room. Cranborne Village (3 miles) is the hub of the Cranborne Estate and well worth a visit. Teeming with history, the village boasts the beautiful Manor House, built in the 12th Century as a hunting lodge for King John. As it’s a private residence for Viscount Cranborne (the eldest Son of the 7th Marquess of Salisbury), the Manor House isn’t open to the public, however the beautiful Manor Gardens are open one day a week during the Summer (opening times, and other information can be found here). There's a couple of World Heritage sites within easy reach: The Jurassic Coast is around an hour away by road, and Stonehenge is 40 minutes. It’s around 20 minutes to Salisbury and 30 minutes to Bournemouth, so, whether you want to go shopping, head to the beach, or catch a theatre production, you’re well catered for.

Food and drink
Go for lunch at Cranborne Garden Centre (01725 517248) or The Compasses Inn (01725 518231) is only a few minutes walk from the campsite. If you want an alternative to The Compasses Inn for dinner, La Fosse (01725 517604) can also be found in Cranborne; an intimate fine dining restaurant run by Dorset Chef of the Year Mark Hartstone and his Wife Emmanuelle. Also, there’s the Inn at Cranborne , or a great alternative for an evening meal is the Railway Hotel at Fordingbridge just 5 minutes' drive away. There is a village shop and Post Office in neighbouring Sandleheath stocking all your essentials,  plus The Gourmet Grocer in Fordingbridge, the nearest Town, stocking not only wonderful fruit and veg, but a whole host of superb local deli products, including real ales, artisan breads and handmade cheeses. A great place to find foodie gifts too. On site we have an outdoor wood-fired pizza oven offering superb handmade pizzas with a variety of toppings, as well as other hot food options most weekends from Thursday to Sunday evenings (please enquire to confirm), and also hot breakfast rolls, teas/coffees etc most weekend mornings.
