Camping is all about horses for courses: some people want to stay somewhere so remote that it’s accessible only by car, while others prefer the convenience of getting to the site by train and then being able to reach everything within a short walk. If you belong in the second camp (and if you are after a holiday at the seaside), Glamping at Swanage Bijou by PitchingIt, in Dorset, might well be the answer to your prayers. You’ll have little need for your car at this family- and dog-friendly Swanage site, since it’s only a short stroll from the High Street (about 10 minutes) and an even shorter stroll from the beach (five minutes). Despite being so close to town, though, the site feels remarkably peaceful – likely thanks to the high hedges that surround it and make it feel more secluded than it is. Bell tents decorated with bunting and floral accents sit on a level grassy field that’s part of Kirkwood Park, an outdoor complex that includes an 18-hole golf course, plus foot and frisbee golf. There is also direct access to a well-equipped playground and to a skateboard park with multiple ramps where the kids can practise their kickturns and flips. Toilets and hot-water showers complete the picture, alongside an area where you can wash up after your barbecue. The nearest supermarket is a five-minute drive away (10 minutes on foot), but if you prefer to let someone else take care of the cooking, there are lots of restaurants and cafés within walking distance.

Swanage Delightful Bell Tent
Not really a glamping experience
It's a nice campsite which is walking distance to the beach, although the bell tents on offer here are not those available through the main campsite. They are not so well equipped - and don't come with any cooking or seating facilities. You get a bed, a light and that's about it. Although bedding is included, so you don't have to bring your own sleeping bag. The beds were airbeds, and unfortunately were rather deflated and so not particularly comfortable. It would have been good if a basic pump for the beds were included, so that the air could be topped up. The on-site staff don't manage these tents, and so it's a little confusing. It would be better if the tents were clearly labelled (eg with a name) so that someone staying knows which tent they are supposed to use - especially as the host was not available on site (although the telephone was answered quickly when we called) It's not so much glamping here, more convenient camping. If you are looking for a glamping experience there are better options elsewhere.

Swanage Delightful Bell Tent
An experience-not welcomed.
People were rude, complaining about my dogs which for a dog friendly place is pretty poor! Swanage was a childhood holiday place for me so it held memories for me. Blow up beds were uncomfortable & ants crawling around everywhere.Toilets & showers were too far away & limited shower use.One shower didn’t heat up! Disappointed & will not return.

Swanage Delightful Bell Tent
Decent, not “Delightful”…
Overall this is a good site. Lots of parking (not too far from your pitch), decent toilets/washing up area/showers and the staff are friendly and helpful. You are also a very short walk from the beach and popular areas of the town. The pitch itself was a little less tidy than I expected based on the pictures and I feel overall the grounds could’ve been a little better maintained (grass was quite long around the tent and around the site generally as well as the bushes). Probably could have had a little more space between pitches - we came back to our pitch and another tent had been put up very close to ours All in all we had a good trip, but I would definitely consider other options if in the area again…

Swanage Delightful Bell Tent
Hidden faery dell
Great location, just a hop, skip and a jump to the town and sea. Magical at night with pretty lights and wooded area. Very friendly atmosphere, and a breakfast trailer doing great food first thing in the morning. Basic toilets and showers which are cleaned daily. Sometimes a little on the chilly side, but the site focuses on saving water and energy. Recycling is top notch. The bell tent is beautiful. Beds were comfortable, though the inflatable mattresses were a bit squeaky! But I get it for having to store them in the winter. We had a great time :)
