Bell tents with sea views on the Lizard Peninsula

It's simple really. Take a field with amazing sea views. Pitch four spacious tents in it and kit them out with all the essentials. And, you've got yourself Belle Camping. But this isn't just any field. Think Cornwall. Think Lizard Point. Think a field you can walk to on the South West Coast Path. In fact, pretty much everywhere on the Lizard Peninsula is within easy reach. This is a seriously special location.

First opened in 2022, Belle Camping offers tents that are off grid but on point: furnished with a proper double bed for grown ups and single camp beds for kids. All bedding and towels are provided, so there’s little for you to bring. There’s battery and solar-powered lighting and simple kit for cooking outdoors on your barbecue too. Even the charcoal is provided. Off-ground fire pits are available to hire and offer a focal point while you wait for the moon to rise up over the sea and the stars to brighten the night sky. Facilities—two bathrooms with a hot shower, a flushing loo and sink—are shared between all guests. With a maximum of four tents, and 16 people on site at any one time, the place never feels busy and is kept beautifully clean by host, Michelle.

She’s pitched her bell tents in a field on Gwavas Jersey Farm, just opposite the lovely Cadgwith Camping. It’s handy if you’re coming with friends who have their own tent or van as you can hop between sites and enjoy a campfire together. It’s also great for food. In the summer holidays, breakfasts and dinners are on offer on the campsite which means you don’t have to cook if you don’t want to. And there’s always fish and chips at the Cadgwith Cove Inn just down the hill where, if you’re lucky, you might hear the local fishermen singing a few sea shanties. Cagdwith is a lovely little fishing village that’s got a shingle beach – but if it’s long days on sandy shores you’re after head further up the coast to Kennack Sands or across the Lizard Peninsula to beautiful Kynance Cove. Both are within five miles, as is Lizard Point itself.

Belle camping Cornwall Family
We had a brilliant time at Belle Camping. The tents were kitted out with everything we needed with plenty of room for our family. We all slept really well and were warm and toasty. Loved being able to have a real camp fire. Lovely short walk along the SW coast path to Cadgwith and our only wish is that we had of tried out the fresh bread at the roadside stall along the way in St Ruan. Thanks Michelle - we will be back for sure!

Belle camping double
My family and I stayed in the 4 belle tents and we cannot wait to come back! The site is surrounded by the most amazing scenery, we loved waking up and seeing the sea view from outside the tent. The tents are so clean and cozy with a very comfy bed, they were also very wind and rain resistant! Michelle was a very attentive host, we were greeted on arrival and she would come back each day to refresh the toilets and see if anything was needed. The tents came with a box of utensils which was really handy to have and also Michelle would replace the cool box packs each day. It really is the little things that count! We are already planning our next trip to stay again!

Belle camping double
Lovely little getaway
4 friends stayed together. Beautiful stars at night. We used the bbq no problem and made some amazing burgers. Woke up in the morning to see the sea and the sunrise so nice with cows just wandering around. Michelle was so lovely, she helped us arrive as we got a bit lost on the way. Wish we could’ve stayed longer to be honest. Nice hot water with showers as well is always a bonus.

Belle Camping Cornwall double
We had a wonderful stay at Belle Camping and would definitely recommend. Private location and lovely sea view. The tent was cozy and well decorated, and it was super handy to have a whole box of cooking utensils. We were really happy that we were only a 5-minute drive away from Lizard’s point; we watched sunset and came back to site before dark. Host Michelle was friendly and very helpful.

Belle Camping is an off-grid spot located just a couple of miles from the village of Lizard, the southernmost settlement in mainland Britain. With a central location on the Lizard Peninsula, the site is within easy reach of many of the best parts of Cornwall's south coast, with Porthleven to the west and Falmouth to the east. Belle Camping has a handful of well-maintained five-metre canvas bell tents, each of which is smartly furnished with colourful décor and comfortably set up for families or couples. All of the tents have access to shared facilities, including a clean toilet and shower; there is also a communal firepit and seating area where you can sit back and relax in the open air. Other than that, there's no internet access or electricity here, but there is good phone signal. Although the weather in this part of the world is generally mild thanks to a southerly location, you might want to bring along some blankets for those nights when it does get chilly. All tents come with basic cooking equipment, dinnerware, cutlery, BBQ, bed linens and Towels Breakfast and an evening meal available just a stones through away from Birdies during peak season
Nearby attractions

Belle Camping Cornwall is situated on Gwavas Jersey Farm, on the cliffs above the harbour village of Cadgwith (less than a mile). The South West Coast Path is just five minutes from the bell tents. You can use it to reach Cadgwith in about 10 minutes or head south on it towards Lizard Point (three miles), which will take around an hour – depending on how long you stop to look at the coastal views on the way. Walk a little further, or jump in the car for 15 minutes, and you can be at Kynance Cove (four miles) where there’s white sand, rocky stacks and turquoise water. Another great sandy beach close to the glamping site is Kennack Sands (two miles) just north of Cadgwith and then there’s Poldhu (six miles). The list of beaches and harbour villages and towns goes on and on. The best of them are highlighted in a guestbook that Michelle leaves in your tent along with other things to do including visiting Porthleven (13 miles), the Cornish Seal Sanctuary at Gweek (10 miles) and Flambards Family Theme Park (10 miles).

Food and drink

In high season (school summer holidays), head across the field to Cadgwith Camping and Birdies, a vintage caravan/field kitchen, serving home-cooked food at breakfast and dinner every day except Wednesdays. Out of season, tea and coffee is often available at Gwavas farmhouse. On Wednesdays, a fish BBQ down on the beach is a great alternative if you don’t want to cook, using freshly-landed fish from the boats. Money raised benefits Cadgwith Gig Club. And there’s always The Cadgwith Cove Inn, the village pub which serves food and has regular sea shanty singing sessions (on Fridays). Having at least a drink at mainland Britain’s most southerly pub, The Witchball, seems like something every visitor to Lizard should do – and there are other options in Lizard for refreshments too (three miles). Try the Top House pub, which has a good menu of pub classics or Coast coffee shop and bistro. For picking up supplies for cooking on the campsite, head for The Store in Ruan Minor, which has fresh bread, pasties and local produce or for Treleague Dairy which has a great farm shop. Both are about a mile away. The nearest supermarkets are in Helston, 10 miles away.
