Camping on the Side of a Mountain!
This is a beautiful and funky little spot. We stayed in Site #2 (Site #1 looks like it's bigger and maybe set up to accommodate more people, but there were just 2 of us staying there).
Since this was the first leg of our moving road trip out to California, my brain was fried when we got to camp and I forgot to message our hosts. They showed up in the late afternoon and schlepped a tank of propane up to us, which was so kind of them.
We parked on the road just below the campsites. To get to the sites you climb down a little ladder from the road and cross a very small stream (just like the directions say). Then there's a series of steps and small switchbacks built into the side of the mountain, first to the mine and then up to the sites. Even though this makes getting your gear up to camp more arduous (and God forbid you forget something!), it gets chilly up at ~8000' once the sun goes down, and after sitting in the car all day it was nice to climb up and down.
Our site had a portable toilet, which we didn't use but maybe is useful for some folks. There is also a propane grill and gas range, in case you don't have your own. Overall a wonderful stay!

The Queen Elizabeth Mine
This place was great! We decided to do last minute winter camping and chose this spot because we had a nice little "pavillion" to block any wind. Very clean and the site had everything you need as far as a table, chairs, a firepit and even a grill that a propane tank can hook up to. Coming back to check this place out in the summer!

Beautiful vista from campsite number one. I didn't get to check out the other sites but will next time. We'll be back!

Great adventure with my boys!
I took my boys camping (they are 7 and 5) and we had a blast. The hike up to the site was not bad at all, we were at site 1. John was a great host! It is indeed very private.
