Very friendly hosts! Was offered eggs for the morning - could hear the coyotes in the early morning, which was very cool
Sage Ranch
Nice place for a short stay in a tent in the middle of sage brush field and in full nature.

Quiet, friendly and beautiful!
Allan was awesome! First rate service and very friendly and open. He made it clear we could let our dog run and he kept his dogs and animals inside so we could do that. He brought us wonderful fresh chicken eggs in the morning for breakfast! He also brought us two big 6 gallon jugs of water. One night, when coming back late after dark, he left a flashlight out in the driveway to guide us toward his driveway.
The view is so incredible there! Beautiful skies and clouds and trees and hills all around.
The quiet was amazing and the stars at night were awesome! Within an hours, drive to Salida and even closer to Buena Vista! Great place to stay. Would highly recommend it! Thanks, Allan!

Sage Ranch
Allan was super nice and crystal clear that winter was sill holding on in the valley and that my early season visit may not have the full amenities. No problem.
For me: the property became a way to reintroduce myself to silence. The panoramic valley view is truly breathtaking. I would certainly return the next time I wanted to be surrounded by an existential “aloneness”, but in a good way. The vibe is more respectful rationally with a strong undertone of environmental responsibility. The place is eclectic and best suited to visitors who are looking to unplug from life for a bit. Whatever your reasons. Wish I would have stayed two nights. There is a magic in the simplicity. Oh… and there’s a long dirt road to get there.

Elk, Rabbits, and Fields upon Field
Allan was responsive and helpful. He was kind enough to put his dogs and the chickens up for the night when we were there so our dog (who does not get along with other dogs) could roam the property and have time to run around.
The property is also surrounded by lots of land and BLM land, so there was plenty of space to roam. Our dog took advantage of this by chasing some rabbits and elk - so if your dog has a prey drive, I would be mindful of that. That said - seeing multiple elk and little cottontails was fun.
A note: there are a lot of mosquitoes out. You're surrounded by reservoirs and we were there peak bug season, so to be expected, but just an FYI.
