A brand new Hipcamp site in 2024, on one of the most unique properties in Park County. With only a single Hipcamp site on a large 40 acre property and no neighbors nearby, you'll enjoy a private camping experience in one of the most scenic locations in Colorado. The property is partially wooded, and there is a spectacular view from the top of a prominent hill on the property which is some of the highest ground for miles in all directions. Upon completion of the City of Aurora's Wild Horse Reservoir in the 2030's, this will be a "waterfront" property. On site picnic tables (the lighter colored bench can fold into a table) and a port-a-potty are provided. The campsite is equipped with a unique dual purpose wood/propane fire ring - bring your own propane to enjoy campfires while burn bans are in effect. Great hiking opportunities may be found right on the property, and numerous nearby seldom used dirt roads provide exceptional mountain biking opportunities. Close to recreational opportunities in Buena Vista and Salida, as well as Antero, Eleven Mile, and Spinney Mountain Reservoirs. A level site with great access, and can accommodate large RV's and campers. And keep your eyes out - you might just see some Pronghorn passing through the property! Directions from the town of Hartsel: Proceed 2 miles South on State Hwy 9. Turn right (South) on CR 53. Stay right at the fork at 1.3 miles. At 3.9 miles, turn left (East) onto lightly used Shawnee Trail (Note: On occasion due to County grading on CR 53, there will be a small mound to drive over as you enter this left turn). Proceed about one-quarter mile (and past the the POSTED NO TRESPASSING sign just inside the property entrance) to the campsite a bit further on the left. This is the one and only Hipcamp site on the property - you'll have a private camping experience and exclusive access to the entire 40 acre property!

Pronghorn Oasis
The Pronghorn Oasis was a fun place for our family of 5 + 4 dogs to enjoy a long weekend. We got lucky with 3 nights of incredibly clear star gazing, perfect view of the Milky Way. Land has sweeping views of the surrounding area and the amenities on-site were a plus. We tent camp; found the are near the table and fire pit to get quite windy and without any shade it felt a bit exposed so we moved camp to a spot closer to the trees. Overall great experience. Peaceful, secluded and beautiful place to spend some time

Pronghorn Oasis
Beautiful
It’s a beautiful spot, convenient to many places you may want to fish, hike or bike… and it’s spacious with beautiful views in all directions. The site is situated in a saddle between two prairie peaks with open ends generally west and east. Two ancient pinion pines whisper when it’s breezy, and if it’s at all wet out, you may very well be up above the clouds. Host built a cool propane/wood burning fire pit and provides a thoughtful porta potty on a trailer up the hill away from the central camp area. A bench by the fire and a picnic table help limit what you need to haul to camp. Definitely on the list of places to return to.

Pronghorn Oasis
What a spectacular piece of land. We were looking for a private, quiet campsite with big sky and Pronghorn Oasis was it! The stars were outstanding and the moon was so brilliant, we didn't need headlamps after dark. The sun is prevalent by day, but there was a bit of tree cover up on the ridge. We set up the tent to be shaded in the early hours. We spent a lot of the day exploring surrounding areas and soaked up the morning and evening at the site. Love this fire pit. Special views in all directions. Steve was a wonderful host, very kind and thorough. His directions were accurate and easy to follow. The service road is little off road style, but a 2WD Rav 4 took it no problem. A little bit of washboarding before the service road. We just took it slow. Excellent stay and have it bookmarked to stay again!
