The property is an old mine and mill site from 1886. located on the edge of the Irwin townsite! The camp site is at 10,200 feet in elevation, so the nights can get chilly!
Best part was being less than a mile from Lake Irwin, where we spent most of our time. At $75/night, I thought the site would be a little better. The free firewood was great but a little wet so it took forever to get a fire going. Firepit ring was broken but that wasn't a huge deal. No shade so make sure you bring a canopy. Not a secluded site. There are two cabins below the site and the owner lives just up the road, which you can see from the campsite. Make sure you have 4x4 to get to site.
This was a beautiful spot despite some not-so-great weather. The flowers and view were beautiful, and Lake Irwin is a great attraction nearby. Everything was set up really nicely, and the gravel kept the mud away from our tent!
Vinny is a very nice host. His camping spot was a great spot. Not secluded. There are cabins near the site. Excellent views. Great star watching. Would recommend Vinny’s campsite at Lake Irwin.
We had a fantastic time at Vinny's!
The drive into and out of the site is stunning, as is the plot itself! You're about a half mile away from the lake and you can easily walk or drive there. It's an easy drive into town and you're conveniently located for hikes, etc.
The site had potable water, a fire ring and fire wood. Vinny also provided (2) camp chairs and a table!
What a wonderful experience! This campsite is close enough to Crested Butte, but far enough to enjoy everything nature has to offer. The site is located on a bluff overlooking a small canyon with sounds of the river and views of little ponds below. Wildlife scampers through the lot with birds singing constantly. Vinny stocked up the campsite with plenty of wood and water, plus offered basic amenities.
