Pristine High Country Setting
Just back from a long weekend at T&S in the Gold Lakes Basin region. Pristine, park-like setting with a gorgeous alpine meadow and babbling brook with trout. This was a crowded weekend at the public campsites, but T&S had what appeared to be just one other group, other than ours, about 1/4 mile away. You’re just a couple miles from Gold Lake and not far from Sierra Buttes and the network of trails in this area. The experience is like backpacking - but with a car (or Jeep in our case). One note: the directions provided were only precise longitude and latitude coordinates. Download a good GPS app to avoid frustration. The site was well out of receptivity for the cell phones in our group. This is a plus when you really want to disconnect!.

Just get a wilderness permit...
So many issues here.... poor communication that could lead to safety concerns, laughable map of property, terrible description of arrival. Damaged the car trying to arrive at this property - a 4x4 vehicle is needed, though this is not included in the description. The campsite itself is like a mosquito breeding pit with none of the views or majesty of the pictures. If you want an outdoor challenge and a remote site, awesome! But you can do 100x better in every respect with just getting a wilderness permit and finding a site on your own.

Disappointed
There is a couple of locations where it is possible to set up a camp. even if it is called daspersed camping, you can find a much better camping site with tent- the location isn’t very camping-friendly. the dense trees and there is almost nowhere to set up tent or set a fire safely. Alot of mosquitos! the lower campsite that closer to the creek is kind of swampy and you can get there only with a backpack. Be aware, there is only space to park 3 cars. In two words, it is can be kind of ok, if you are plan a backpacking camping, but if you plan to bring your camp furniture or you have a lot of stuff its better to find another place to stay. Message to The host- please clear the forest and old trees to make it suitable for camping .

Private Woodsy Gem
Tom's spot was just what we needed. His woodsy acreage in the middle of Plumas National Forest is beautiful and private with tons to explore, including nearby wildflower-dotted meadows and seasonal creeks. He met us when we arrived and helped us get oriented, but we had the option to camp pretty much anywhere we wanted and there were plenty of good spots for setting up a tent and getting cozy. There was no one else on his land while we were there. Just keep in mind that the further you hike out from your parking spot, the more careful you need to be about remembering your path back. Make sure to bring headlamps and lanterns so you can navigate after dark. It's really just you in the middle of nature, which makes Tom's spot a rare gem. Be ready for amazing stargazing opportunities! We encountered some bear poop and understood that black bears could be around during our stay. We practiced regular bear safety (no food in your tent or car, had a boat horn for scaring purposes, had a little bluetooth speaker playing when we walked at night to announce our presence, bear spray on hand just in case) but actually didn't end up with any bear encounters. Black bears are very skittish and won't come by if they hear people. As far as navigation goes, the GPS point is accurate, so it's safe to trust Google maps—we ended up exactly where we were supposed to park. Pro-tip: download the map of the area before you get there though because you won't have service. There are tons of awesome little lakes nearby. Gold Lake is the big, more touristy one with a lodge and restaurant. We went kayaking on Upper Salmon Lake, which I'd highly recommend if you want a more private, quiet lake experience. There are no motorboats on this one and awesome views both on the lake and and if you walk up trails around the basin. If you need to go to town, Graegle has a few shops and restaurants and is about a 25 min drive from Tom's spot. Clio is another cute small town with a good brunch spot (waffles and tacos) the same distance away.
