Sacred Space at The Refuge
This is an excellent tent camping site. It has an outside kitchen, and composting toilets! Everything for the kitchen was already there. Pots, pans, cups, bowls, big mixing bowls, big pots to cook a big stew up in, plates, Silverware, salt, pepper, tea etc.. (there was no sugar or honey to put in the tea- probably to keep the ants, critters away. So bring your own sweetners.)
There is a big gas stove, and sink. As far as we could tell, there wasn’t any hot water so plan on putting a pot of water on the stove to wash your dishes in.
After cooking our meal and while cleaning up I discovered field mice poop on the counters, in the big salad bowl that held the utensils and I realized the mice probably walked all over the open utensils. I was a bit concerned and hoped we didn’t get sick.
We came in October which is the end of the camping season so I understand there probably hadn’t been other campers around to clean up the kitchen. They knew we were coming though so it would have been nice if they had spent a few minutes to sanitize things!
Don’t get me wrong, we loved the set up. It was beautiful, the outdoor kitchen is beautiful and well thought out. The bathrooms have an outside mirror, sink, and almost a private dressing area.
There are horses close by so plan on some dust and flies. We heard the cows lowing in the distance and saw wild turkeys strutting across the property. It was a very peaceful place. Our hosts were not there but they were super fast with any texts, we had to change to the following weekend and were very accommodating.
I would for sure go back!

We enjoyed 2 star-filled July nights on Erin and Jakob's property. They are wonderful hosts making sure the outhouse and kitchen were OK. The region is hot in July but cooled off after dark. The stocked kitchen setup is luxurious!

We had a nice stay at the Refuge. Erin was a great host that made us feel welcome and also gave us plenty of space. The kitchen was great! It made camping easy and our kids loved running around and playing with their trucks. I'd recommend staying here if you are looking for a private area to cook meals, enjoy the privacy, stargaze and explore the many attractions of the area.

Erin and Jakob were extremely easy to communicate with (and I had lots of questions...). They responded within minutes and always with a kind tone.
Their space is absolutely amazing. It’s beautifully maintained, has everything you need if you want to glamp with your tent.
The setting feels private but is safely enclosed into the property with their house and beautiful garden nearby. It’s obvious that they’re taking really good care of the space and its amenities.
We met both of them on our second day and saw them again upon departure and they were extremely welcoming, hospitable, kind, and interesting to talk to.
They even gave us some of their fresh basil (different types) that we incorporated into our dinner! Delicious.
We had a fantastic time and would love to come back some day.

Erin & Jakob were very gracious hosts! Their open air kitchen was such a wonderful asset and was very well stocked. The site is so beautiful and peaceful and in a great location for those en route to Yosemite or Stanislaus National Forest. I would love to return to the Refuge for a longer stay again in the future!

This space was really great. The kitchen and bathroom setup are very well done. It's really easy to get into town if you need any supplies. The hosts were super welcoming. You could feel the insane amount of love they have put into the space. Will definitely come back at some point.
