A mysterious parcel. Reputedly home to an art school that went by the name 'the Art Ranch of Pescadero in the 60' (Imagine all the weed that was smoked here). All that remained was a few stories and the dorms. The Dorms were highly dilapidated when we arrived but we have been clearing them out and making them shine, at least, so far. Two of the dorm rooms are ready for guests, the other two....well, maybe a hobo, but those will be made into something as well, by and by. The overall state of the property when we arrived was choked with coyote brush, poison oak, and berry bushes, the dorms were left completely open to elements and wildlife, and bees, bats, and rats had the run of the place for the better part of 40 years. Little by little we are restoring its dignity, while retaining the soul of the place. If anyone who has artistic talent were to stay, we would love for you to bestow some mark of your passing through, if the thought struck you. Please also understand we have boards, hoses, building materials and salvaged items sometimes with no place to go, dont be surprised to see three wood burning stoves in the back yard, a couple tools, and some burls or boards laying about. We also prefer to check every guest so there is a clear understanding of the lay of the land. Check in time is no later than 6pm. We can make exceptions but it must be communicated in advance. We live off grid (limited solar, etc.) and independently so we are always repairing our things or maintaining or you name it, so setting the expectation. Please read the house rules so you know what to expect.

      Rooms are old funky rustic art studios with a beautiful view of the Santa Cruz mountains. Very off the grid. We had a great time!

      I absolutely loved my experience at Guy and Bernie’s spot. Guy was fantastic and very personable. I was able to put my head down comfortably each night and have an outdoor shower in the morning (ask Guy to turn on the heat for the shower or just enjoy a nice cool outdoor shower every morning, as I did). It’s a very peaceful spot. Expect a camping vibe with a roof over your head. You’re definitely roughing it, but I would sign up for that again in a heartbeat. Great time.

      Guy was super friendly, he showed us an awesome nearby spot that we never would have found on our own. Cool spot too, just calibrate expectations to camping rather than hotel.

      Guy and Bernie's place was really cool and had a fun personality. They were welcoming and nice. The plumbing situation was messed up but the hosts made it right with us. Due to an emergency situation the hosts requested to change the meet up time which interfered with some of our plans, however, they were good about communicating. FYI the service on the the 1 is not good, so download/take a screenshot of the directions before you lose service. If you are looking for an airbnb-type experience, this is not for you. The place is great and huge luxury compared to camping (minus our bathroom situation). But considering the price, you're not paying for an airbnb and the luxuries that come along with it. The shower was nice and hot, but you need to follow specific directions. The shower and bathroom situation was cramped for my travel partner, who is a large man, so keep that in mind if you are a larger individual. Once the plumbing situation is more locked in, we will absolutely be back. Thanks guy and Bernie for offering a beautiful and affordable place to lay our heads during our trip!
