Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation. Splitrock Farm Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers. Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 200 foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. To the northeast are views of near 11K foot snowy peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio, with rolling hills of De Luz and Fallbrook in the foreground.

Splitrock Valley - Jurassic Jungle
The campground had privacy with level sites for pitching our tents. It included a shaded table, sink and drying rack with potable water. The bathroom was about a hundred yards away from the site up a hill but had a flushing toilet and a propane heated shower. We had a great time and Ben delivered the requested firewood in a timely manner and reapplied the bathroom when requested.

The Oak Grove Communal Camping
Cool spot. If you can score a camping spot in peaceful valley it's even better!

Splitrock Valley - Stargazer
Half site un-usable/ not cleaned up
Location was private but not cleaned up: arrived to find no room to place out tents, as the host had their add-on tent and bedding taking up half the site. We did not request it and was not going to use it just to be charged for it ($100+). We unfortunately had to sleep in our cars. Site was not cleaned up: in addition to the tent and bedding, there was dog poop in a few spots; not a big deal, but a clear indicator the host made no effort to clean up after the previous tenant, which explains why there was no effort to remove the host tent. Directions/signage are poorly labeled overall, and no standardization to it. Host does not respond: used the requested platform to contact the host (through hip camp). Sent a message about check in flexibility on 9/28 at 9:00 am, I am writing this on 10/01 and still no response. Site allows 4 campers. We had four campers. They charged us for an extra camper🤷‍♂️. Double check how they bill you. Appears to be a fully passive operation, which is fine, except when you're not getting what you paid for.

Rock Bottom w/ a View from the Top
I enjoyed this site. The big rock was a treat. The area for the tent was good. There’s lots of bugs but can’t not expect that when camping outdoors, having bug spray was a must! The view was lovely.

The Oak Grove Communal Camping
Needs a lot of attention immediate
We stayed on communal group area 1- bathrooms are full of empty, broken, handsaw, plastic bottles and dispensers no toilet papers etc. None of the grills are working sinks are extremely dirty. We had to find the camp host I told her about toilet paper and Hande stop. She came and left one toilet paper roll and unopened big hand soap refill bottle Didn’t even bother to refill them. I refilled the bottle. Not trash in the bathroom area everything is broken. Faucets are broken sink was broken and leaking down the floor.. When we asked them how the grills are working, she act completely stranger and didn’t even know how they were and there was no propane. Charging $17/ person And into description area, explaining as if it is a perfect campground this was a total disappointment.
