San Diego Mountain Lodge is a beautiful escape to nature sprawled out over about 40 acres on a breathtaking spot that we call Hideout Mountain in Santa Ysabel, CA. Multiple experiences are offered: -- glamping in our vintage camper trailers, -- RV sites with full hookups and incredible views of Lake Henshaw -- campsites, -- luxury camping in our remodeled cabins (studio, 1br, and 2br cabins) each with different amenities ranging from full kitchens, wood burning fireplaces, large outdoor decks and private fire pits. Gather and share ideas with fellow guests at our community firepit and picnic tables. What makes Hideout Mountain a magical place? #1 on the list are the stunning views as far as the eye can see of Lake Henshaw and the valley and surrounding mountains. We also have a one-of-a-kind, world renowned restaurant and bar on the property: Josie's Hideout Saloon, open on weekends with live music. We are located just a few minutes drive away from downtown Santa Ysabel and Julian, with easy access off Hwy 76.

RV Campsite #1 - The Crossing
Very nice ... with some caveats
We made a last minute booking and were able to arrive within just 20 minutes or so. The site was easy to access and spacious. It is set amongst trees and private. At night the area was quiet aside from an occasional passing car on the road below. The onsite manager was friendly and helpful. Despite the caveats below, we enjoyed our stay. For a single overnight, it worked well. I would likely not book the spot for multiple days however. Things to be aware of ... * Although the site is described as level, it is definitely *not*. I had the front of the trailer nearly on the ground and I was barely able to level it front to back. And with 6" of leveling blocks on the downslope side, I was still at a 5 degree angle side to side. * There is a restaurant owned by the same landowner on the road adjacent to site #1. It is probably 300' away down a steep slope. While it is close, the slope provide complete privacy. Fortunately it is only open from mid morning to mid afternoon on weekends, because it attracts tons of bikers that are extremely loud. The restaurant itself plays loud music outside and uses a speaker to announce when food is ready. If you are hoping for a tranquil spot in the woods during the weekend day, this isn't it.

RV Campsite #15 - Scenic Sanctuary
So I pulled up, then opened my app for the instructions amd as I was reading them, the host pulled up. Bobby, then rasied his voice at me asking ... who are you ! I then replied I'm a camper, trying to find my site. Then he demanded I give him the site #. I advised him that I'm currently reading the instructions. As I was reading it, he was being a complete jerk. So I gave him the site number and then, he gave me directions to the site but did so being very rude. The site was nice but did not feel welcomed there. The mamager Bobby, was very rude. The view is the only thing that kept ke there. I was gonna get a refund and go somewhere else due to that guy, Bobby but I stayed. The property is well kept, but the trash can on my site was not taken out so, there were fly, ants, bugs, everywhere. I camp alot and live amongst them but this was ridiculous. Especially the flies. Mosquito, more than any lake camping I've ever have completed. You can also heae the cars drive by because your site is right below you. You only have 1 area where you get a good view. The 🌟 are abundant, but the power lines get un the way of the view unless your off the campsite. The flies, the ants, the rude mamager of the property, I don't recommend anyone going there. Especially for what they charge for the sites. They have cabins there, but as I stated, overpriced for what you get. The cabins are tiny. Not bad but not good.

Great for Our Family and Young Kids
Was super easy to book, very responsive with questions ahead of the actual trip, and sorta feel they undersold the amenities/supplies available at the camper (we clearly overpacked, not expecting so many basics being available). It’s certainly tucked away, which is what we wanted for our family. Short drive to fishing, downtown Julian and misc day excursions. Last night had a loud neighbor down the valley, but that is certainly not the hosts fault, and it was a holiday weekend so it’s a gamble. Worth noting that we have a special needs child, and I felt perfectly comfortable giving him some freedom and also having pretty clear site lines. Plus being able to sleep with him in a camper while dad/other kid slept in a tent outside was really helpful for extra-special needs-mom-anxiety.
