Our special land is located in Campo, CA where the buffalo soldiers were housed Learn more about this land: Our campsites are on unceded Kumeyaay territory, in an almost untouched chaparral landscape with oak trees, white sage and California buckwheat growing abundantly. Just down the road is where the Buffalo Soldiers were originally housed. We have 5 sites total, each of which has its own hipcamp listing. Each site is located away from another and each has its own unique microbiome. This site is off its own trail, which other campers will not have access to. We do allow multiple camping groups on the land at a time, but at 120 acres, there is plenty of space and trails such that everyone has their privacy and distance. There is soft riverwash to set up your tent on, a large oak tree with a picnic table for shade while making meals and an abundance of sagebrush and buckwheat surrounding you for privacy. The site is versatile however, so you can set up in different ways depending on if you want lots of shade or to stargaze.  The trail is easily accessible by car, but because of the soft nature of the ground we do recommend you have 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive. If you don't, the trail is solid at the beginning so you can park your car and walk into the main area of the site , which is approx 50 feet away. This site can comfortably host a maximum of 6 people, with a maximum of 5 tents and 3 vehicles. Please note: While this is the maximum we recommend everyone carpool if they can to help the environment and reduce the number of vehicles on the land.   We have about 10 spigots throughout the entrance of the property, and you are more than welcome to fill your water jugs/bottles here for your use during your stay. The cold, delicious water comes straight from our well. As of today 02/12/2021 we are allowing fires, as we have had some good rain and snow. Please let us know upon booking if you intend to have a fire and we will leave a bucket of water by the fire pit and provide fire extinguishers. Propane cooking is always allowed. On the land there is a mountain and an oak forest for hiking/exploring, we simply ask that you do not harvest/wildcraft any of the white sage on the property, as it is an endangered medicine sacred to the Indigenous peoples of California. On the way to the mountain you will see a silver water tower, there is a spigot at the base of this with fresh water for your use while hiking/exploring. Please also note that because 90% of the property is untouched there are wild animals, such as quail, snakes, coyotes, hares and lizards. We have printed animal and plant identification lists for your use while you camp. The land is not only a campground but also a growing family farm; We have chickens, pigs, dogs and there are peacocks who roam the property. You can follow us on instagram @paraisopavoreal to check out what we're up to. We are 7 miles south of Lake Morena and two miles north of the Pacific Crest Trail Southern Terminus. Lake Morena features boating and fishing, parking is $3. Fishing/Boating fees are posted on their website along with the fishing report for the season. The Pacific Crest Trail is a 2600 mile trail from the southern border to the northern border. The portion near us features beautiful hikes. More information can be found on the Pacific crest Trail Association website.

I really enjoyed this camp site, was very private and in a beautiful area. My dog loved running around on the very large site.

Caterra was a joy to communicate with. Although my group had to cancel last minute, she was so kind and accommodating and we are so looking forward to finding a time that works in the future!

I think I found the perfect spot
I think this campsite is the perfect combination of seclusion, access to resources and availability of activities. The hosts grandmother lives on site but you are separated from her house buy a small section of oak Woodlands. Both of the camping sites are on soft sand and within a few minutes of fresh well water and walking trails. Grandma has a few animals that she tends to throughout the day and it don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation and get to know the animals. The chickens, horses, pigs, dogs, cats and peacocks are all friendly and just a joy to be around. The hiking trails are a plant nerds paradise. You can spend hours on the trails finding huge Manzanitas, sage brushes and yuccas. There is so much to do and see here at this campsite. There really is no better place to stay at such a reasonable price.
