For 70 years the Nelson family has been farming vineyards and attracting people every year to the beautiful region of Hopland. It is truly a family affair as each generation has put in their time and energy, infusing this ranch with their own flair. In 1951 Herman and Clara Nelson sold their ranch in what is now Silicon Valley and headed north, landing in Southern Mendocino County near the town of Hopland. Since then the mature prune orchards and grass-fed sheep that dotted the farm’s rolling hills have given way to an abundance of sustainable vineyards as well as Bartlett pears, an olive orchard, and live Christmas Trees. You will be staying on a working ranch, vineyards, and winery. We have several locations but none of them have hookups at this time. We have vineyard views and oak woodlands and hilltop valley views. We host weddings and other events. We have a tasting room and a redwood picnic area. We are the fourth owners of this property. The ranch has produced hops, prunes, pears, wine grapes, sheep, and cattle at different periods. Currently, we grow pears, grapes, strawberries, and Christmas trees. You will be camping on a working ranch, vineyards, cattle ranch, and winery. We have several locations, but none of them are currently developed with hookups, although, we do allow tent camping! We have vineyard views, oak woodlands, a strawberry stand, and a Christmas tree farm open the day after Thanksgiving. We host weddings and other events. We have a tasting room and a redwood grove picnic area.  Follow Google Maps to the tasting room at Nelson Family Vineyards which is open from 10 am to 5 pm. They will check you in, give you a map of the campsites, and give you the gate code. The road to the campsites is one lane with passing turnouts but we encourage campers to wait to access the campsites after 12 pm and and leave before 12 pm. We are the fourth owners of this property. The original owner, Don Juan Feliz called it the Sanel Rancho. Feliz transferred our valley to John Knight for services rendered after the Mexican-American War in 1846 to regain the title to the Sanel Rancho from Congress. Leslie Crawford purchased it from Knight's wife and later purchased several homesteads. The ranch has produced hops, prunes, pears, wine grapes, sheep, and cattle at different periods. Currently, we raise pears, grapes, strawberries, and Christmas trees.

Remote beauty
Amazing property, the sites are much further apart than most campgrounds and it's got amazing views. It feels remote and it's still near town. We took our 2wd RV and it was awesome 😎🙏

Beautiful views. So peaceful. Very quiet, even with multiple other campers. Very quick response time. There were weddings being set up with extra traffic, but not close to where we camped. Would definitely recommend.

Quiet
We enjoyed camping at Nelson Family Vineyard. We found a nice spot under a big oak tree and enjoyed the view. It was very quiet and peaceful.

Camped to watch the meteor showers.
What a wonderful place to escape! We came from Santa Rosa to get away from the city lights to watch the Perseid meteor shower. The views did not disappoint. We were in site 6 with beautiful views all around. Relaxed under the shade of the oak trees, watched the woodpeckers. Hiked the trail late morning. Pretty strenuous but beautiful. 3.5 miles. 560 ft elevation change. Highly recommend!!
