DO NOT TRY TO ACCESS VIA PEARL DR. You have to enter via Simpson Ln, which makes it a bit further off the beaten track. Campsites are uneven, some have a picnic table but some are pretty raw or random. There is one toilet, sink, and shower stall. Not much in terms of signs or common areas, we happened to bump into someone who worked on the property who helped guide us around. On the other hand, the walk in tent sites are in an interesting forested area.

Redwood Walk-In Tent Sites
Great hidden gem in the Mendocino area! It’s close enough where it’s easy to get to, but far enough away where you feel like you’re really out there. Camping on Heather’s property feels like you’re camping in a redwood grove. It was gorgeous and had everything we needed!

Walk-In Site
I highly recommend this campsite. First thing, the shower has HOT water! The bathroom was way cleaner than expected. This was a pleasant surprise. The campsites were spread out and gave us the right amount of privacy. There was an open sky near the bathroom that allowed you to see the sky full of stars, it was such a beautiful view. Check in was easy, just make sure you set up camp well before sunset. It was peaceful in the redwoods and close to town. 10/10

A place to stay in a pinch. I just wish the sites were clearly assigned and labeled as it was difficult to find the correct spot. The host was responsive though. A flushing toilet is nice but in a DIY building with exposed wires. The shower and toilet are in the same building so if you needed to go and someone was taking a shower, there’s a wait. Several old structures through out the area. Besides that, was able to spend the night with no other issues.

Not private but very nice scenery
The camp was nice and the host was very friendly and polite, the only thing was that it was still in the process of being completed and it didn’t exactly feel private as a person was living in a house within a few hundred feet. Overall the scenery was nice but it gave us the vibe of camping in a persons yard instead of in the woods.

Shady Grove Drive-In Group Camp
The photos do not accurately represent the condition of this property. There are some beautiful areas to camp, shady drive in is not one of them. The main area is surrounded by dilapidated buildings, shipping containers and debris. The folks that interacted with us were nice, and there’s a lot of potential for this to be a wonderful Hipcamp but it’s not there yet. There were a lot of “workers” walking around which is not mentioned in the listing and also a dog that belonged to the property got off leash and ran very far down a trail to where we were and got very aggressive with our pups. We were a large group and grateful for the last minute booking after our initial reservations were cancelled due to wildfire but this listing is lacking transparency and is overpriced given its current condition.
