Not private but very nice scenery
The camp was nice and the host was very friendly and polite, the only thing was that it was still in the process of being completed and it didn’t exactly feel private as a person was living in a house within a few hundred feet. Overall the scenery was nice but it gave us the vibe of camping in a persons yard instead of in the woods.

Shady Grove Drive-In Group Camp
The photos do not accurately represent the condition of this property. There are some beautiful areas to camp, shady drive in is not one of them. The main area is surrounded by dilapidated buildings, shipping containers and debris. The folks that interacted with us were nice, and there’s a lot of potential for this to be a wonderful Hipcamp but it’s not there yet. There were a lot of “workers” walking around which is not mentioned in the listing and also a dog that belonged to the property got off leash and ran very far down a trail to where we were and got very aggressive with our pups. We were a large group and grateful for the last minute booking after our initial reservations were cancelled due to wildfire but this listing is lacking transparency and is overpriced given its current condition.

If you’re looking for an off the grid place to pop up your tent, this is a great option. They offer dispersed camping in their redwood forest with a nearby babbling creek. Very peaceful setting and hosts were friendly.

Redwoods Camping
Short drive to Fort Bragg. There were 4 walk in sites and they all are different. We stayed at the second most desirable location (imo) off to the left; it was mostly flat and had a log which could be made into a make-shift cooking area. The most desirable had a large open space for a tent and table and chairs. No other site had this space. The area was very pretty with a creek below the property (you could hear running water), minimal bugs for this time of year, and lush redwoods. Only consideration would be to drive a more lifted car than the typical 4 dr sedan as the path into camp from the road had some erosion and the bottom of our car scraped a couple areas. In the rain, the would have been difficult and may suggest 4wd. All in all, grateful for the camp and host. I would recommend.

Shady Grove Drive-In Group Camp
Unwelcoming kind of creepy.
After driving through what appeared to be an uncleared , poorly marked overgrown driveway and finding what appeared to be other campers in our spot some guy with a flash light came and asked us what we were doing. He went and got another guy, with a large dog. They were both unfriendly and obviously annoyed we were there. Instead of directing us to a site they kept saying “Its kind of late”. (It was 10pm), looking down and away while talking, appearing to be anxious. We had indeed had a long trip which I told the host prior to. Eventually one of them waved us over to a spot next to what I assume is his house and that looked nothing like we had agreed on. The whole interaction was so sketchy my kids were too scared to even get out of the car. My husband didn’t feel good about it either, even though we were prepared and had been camping off grid for a couple weeks. This was our last spot. My assumption is they gave away our spot and were annoyed we were there. Perhaps we interrupted something. The property is rustic but with clear directions or a welcoming host, it could be great. There was no service (as is common) but given the circumstances we felt it wasn't safe to stay. Luckily another Hipcamper in the area let us set up on his property for the night, and though we had two nights booked we didn’t feel it was safe to come back. The host never reached out after we left, and I only hope they issue a refund. The 6 minutes we spent there were plenty.

Ideal Mountain Biking Base Camp
This place is ideally located for mountain biking! Ride from your camp site to come of the best trails in Northern California! The tent sites are beautiful and quiet, a short 2-minute walk from the parking area and bath room. Facilities are rustic - that’s why you’re camping! Hosts are friendly and eager to please. We would go back again for our next biking trip.
