Mt. Doom has over 200 acres of woodlands that have not been cut in nearly a century.  We play paintball on a small part of the property on weekends and you can join in!  However, 90% of the area is totally virgin timberland and you could walk all day without seeing another living soul.  Lots of trails and roadways to hike and views off the mountains at every turn.  Less than 1.5 mi. from Mulberry River with whitewater rapids or swimming access.  Some say spirits roam these woods but not in a malevolent way, just strange noises, sudden winds and leaves moving or the feeling of being watched.  Awesome view of the constellations far from ground light clutter and an eerie quietness prevails.  Crows will follow your movements and talk about you right to your face!  An unforgettable destination stop that you will mark on your map for every visit you take to Alabama. Learn more about this land: Over 200 acres of undeveloped southern woodlands surrounded by corporate owned timber lands that are fully accessible for hiking or mountain biking.  Campsite overlooks 20 miles of unobstructed view from a grassy point on the last mountains in the Appalachian Mountain chains.  Very isolated and quiet with good view of constellations at night.  Miles of woodland roadways and trails where you won't see another person but might catch a glimpse of any number of southern woodland creatures.  A little noisy on weekends as we operate a paintball/airsoft field on part of the property, but otherwise you'd be the only people in the woods for miles around.  Paintball "extra" available if you'd like to try a survival game while you are here!

Site 4 - Mt. Doom Haunted Forest
Awesome experience!
We stayed at Doug’s campsite for our Rock the South trip, and it was amazing. He checked on us every morning and made sure we had what we needed. The two dogs, helga and dirk, we’re just and added bonus. We had more fun at the air-soft field and driving around the wooded trials then at the concert. The bathroom was clean, and it had running water. I will most definitely be back with my friends to visit. Thanks Doug!

Site 5 - Mt. Doom Haunted Forest
Convenient site for drive up camping. I’m not sure why this is listed as site 5 as I was informed by the owner that there were only 4 spots. Doug, the host was friendly as were his dogs. I’m looking forward to a return trip to explore the 200 acres surrounding this camp site.

5* service with a million * view
Doug is a fantastic host!! Going way above and beyond. He made sure our stay there was a great experience!! Our site was one of the most beautiful we have stayed at in Alabama, yes, that includes the ones we have paid quite a bit per night for. The view from our site should be on a postcard. The “guard” is also just as amazing (Dirk, the German Shepherd) nothing like relaxing around the fire getting pooch kisses and playing fetch. Before anyone takes that as a negative, we were asked MULTIPLE times if he was bothering us, we just LOVED his company!!! We WILL be back!!

Best view ever
My wife and i had a great stay. We enjoyed meeting Doug and the dogs. The view from our spot was breath taking. You can also play painball or air soft. I played a little paintball myself for the first time. Had a blast. Close to towns so you can get what ever you forgot. Plush many lakes, rivers and creeks near by too.i will be coming back and highly recomend for to stay. Happy camping.

Mt. Doom Haunted Forest
Beautiful, but NOT a place to hike
I think Mr Doug has different ideas about "trails" and "level"... He was so nice but told us the drive back to the remote primitive campsites was LEVEL.. and it was not..also quite muddy from recent rains. We were concerned about getting back out later as we were expecting more rain. If roads were dry we would have tried it. Ended up at campsite on the ridge closer to the house. Beautiful views. This site stated it had electricity, so we decided to plug in the phones instead of running the cars. NO electricity...tried texting Doug to see if he could check breaker. No response. The description state there are miles of "trails." I think Doug believes ATV roads are trails. A hiker thinks of paths meandering through the woods. We didn't see any trails. If you are a paint ball/air soft enthusiast, this place is for you. If you want to camp and HIKE, it is not. Mr Doug and his dogs were very nice, I just think he should re write the description on the app as it is quite misleading.

Beautiful rustic private spot
We were in need of a place to camp one hour prior to sunset and Dougs place not only fit the ticket—it had a beautiful view! The stars were amazing, as was the overlook. The people were mighty friendly and helpful as well. They got us firewood as we set up our tent in a hurry before sundown. It’s advisable that one bring their own chairs, though, for there wasn’t really a place to sit besides the ground—and there were fire ants on it. Those of us with socks and shoes remained unbitten, and there wasn’t a mosquito to be seen! There was running water from a hose and a clean latrine too.
