Be sure to pack your swim gear and hit up the sandy beach, and don’t miss the stunning vista on Hardin Ridge Road where forests swoop gracefully down to the massively beautiful Lake Monroe—Indiana’s largest. Super close to Bloomington (just 30 minutes, y’all!), so it will be extra easy to peel away from those non-camping obligations.

They have some nice large sites, programming for the kids, and the lake is great if you like water sports. We enjoyed hiking in the nearby Charles M. Dean Wilderness Area. Ticks were particularly bad though. This park is also close to Columbus, Indiana which is a neat little city to check out. Rumor has it that it has the highest number of architects per capita of any city in the US, and it shows.
