This 25 acre parcel was once owned by a sand mining company. There are mounds and valleys all along the Illinois River. We purchased the property in 1987, and cut in the road. The city of Ottawa recently annexed the property into the Ottawa city limits. It's like owning our own wild park.

Ottawa IL East Woods / Rainbow Pond
Very cool hip camp. Will most likely return. The road leading in was very unkept, which is mentioned in the listing. There was a tree that had fallen and we had to drive through the brush to go around it so definitely recommend an SUV or truck to get in. This was my only complaint besides the loud and frequent trains you can hear at night. There was a site over looking a pretty pond that was a short walk to the river or there was a site in the woods right off the river bank. We chose the site in the woods. There was plenty of space for our dogs to explore and they loved the river. There was also live music playing from a bar just down the river and we thought that was a plus. We will probably be back next summer!

Goose Creek Lost Acre
We had a great stay on Katie's land. It was very peaceful and secluded. It was nice to be so close to Starved Rock.

Passing through
Very private spot alongside a creek that comes off of the Illinois River. Katie was very friendly and inviting and met us at the entrance of what looked like a backyard at first, only to go across and through a couple of fields, finally coming upon this sweet, short little trail to a lovely private site that you would have to walk your gear a few yards in. It’s also ok for a van or camper to snug up to the tree line for shade and still have a campfire area down by the creek. Summertime is a bit humid and there are bugs. We started a fire and burned citronella and had minimal issues. We also had a fan! There’s a train which I didn’t hear at all during the night but if you’re a light sleeper, this might be an issue for you We’re roadtripping across the country and only stayed a night but we’d definitely return and recommend!

Ottawa IL East Woods / Rainbow Pond
Katie met us and showed us around her land when we got there. There are different spots to camp. We decided to camp by the river. I went with my twelve year old son and we had a great time. The land is very private and quiet. We fished in the pond and the river. We saw bald eagles, deer, and more wildlie. I would definitely recommend and will be back again.

Misleading posting … NO BATHROOM!!!
The host was nice. But more importantly the listing wasn’t accurate in regards to what’s available. A bathroom was a nonnegotiable for us because we had a person with us with a medical condition requiring a bathroom. The post said there was a bathroom but unfortunately this is incorrect and caused us a bit of a problem. Wouldn’t have booked this location if the listing was accurate.
