In June of 2018 we abandoned our life in the city in an endeavor to become self-sufficient. We moved onto 49 acres of raw land and began bringing our plans to fruition one beam at a time. If you see it on our land, than we've designed and built it ourselves (with a little help from friends along the way). Hank is incredibly knowledgable and well practiced in so many areas including building and engineering, plumbing, electrical, land clearing, gardening, solar power, off grid living and more. Every structure on the land, with the exception of a few pre-built cabins, have been brought to life from an idea that we had. We've found that the only way to truly have what we desire is to build it ourselves. This "do it ourselves" method has allowed us to really create our own vision and to afford the process. Two of the major set backs we have discovered along the way are time and money. We purchase a lot of discount lumber packages to use at later dates, and have formed good relationships with local saw mills. We can only build so much as weather, our health, and our finances allow. We've learned to nurture our bodies, take breaks when needed, and check the forecast! We have so many more ideas than we have time or money to execute, but we keep doing just a little bit every day. At any given moment we have multiple projects going on, but we work well that way. Each project helps us to feel vital and alive! Not to mention the huge feeling of accomplishment upon completion. We've successfully transitioned from city life into off-grid farmers and homesteaders. We have truly begun to to experience life and live in better harmony with the natural world. We’ve known since we first set foot on our land that we wanted to share it with others! We believe in and experience daily the healing power of spending time in nature and amongst animals and we can not wait to share this experience with you!
