This spacious and well-maintained campground is located seven miles from the Everglades National Park entrance.

The park is open seasonally from November to May, and sites are available on a first-come first-serve basis only. With 108 drive-up spots and one large group campground (reservable by phone) there is usually always enough space to meet the demand of campers (but if you do find yourself out of luck, Flamingo Campground is 30 miles south through the park). Long Pine Key features clean restrooms, flat private camping spots, a picnic area with fire grates, and potable water. There are no showers. Bring your own firewood, and plenty of bug spray. Activities include a fishing pond, fabulous hiking trails, and educational ranger-led programs at the amphitheatre.

Our gateway to Paradise camper van is set inside Homestead city limits. It is parked on the side of my home, with a private entrance, and a private fenced area. It is the perfect spot, centrally located between Miami, the Everglades, and the Florida Keys, each being between 20 and 30 minutes drive. It has a bed that sleeps two, as well as a seating area that the table goes down and converts into a small bed. The camper van is air-conditioned, has a conduction cooktop in the kitchenette, as well as running water in the sink. There is a portable flushing camping toilet inside. A grill, fire pit, hammock, and outdoor shower with shower pump sprayer. Linens, towels, toiletries, and kitchenware are provided. Located close to shopping, and food delivery services are available.

The camp site is shaded and has a portable fire pit. Easy access to highways, parks close by with trails, the Everglades, beaches, stores. We boarder a nice neighborhood, and other agricultural properties. You can experience the best of both worlds, on the edge of nature, very peaceful and the suburban life, close to the cities amenities.

2016 UPDATE: Showers are now being built at Long Pine Key Campground! Hallelujah! Although there are no hookups for RVs, there is a dump station with water as you exit. I love this campground for its privacy and solitude. The mosquitoes are always a problem, less so in the winter months of course, and also gators if you venture near the pond. We also had a Cottonmouth snake visit our campsite last time we stayed. Just be careful, watchful, and prepared. Enjoy the silence and have fun!
