Breath of Dawn

6 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents35 acres · Castlewood, VA
Welcome to our mountain camping retreat in Virginia, where you will experience the beauty of nature up close and personal. Our farm is a perfect place to relax, unwind, and enjoy nature's beauty.  Location Our property is located in the Appalachian Mountains of SW Virginia, just a few a miles away from the Clinch River and over looking the Clinch Mountain. You'll escape the hustle and bustle by getting lost in our stunning views of the landscape.  Activities Whether you are an adventurer or just looking for some relaxation amidst nature, our area provides plenty of activities for all. You can explore the trails in the nearby mountains, go kayaking in the rivers, or simply relax and enjoy the beauty of the scenery here on the homestead. There are also plenty of fun festivals and activities in the nearby towns. Accommodations Our rural homestead offers a quiet escape. Accommodations range from primitive campsites, glamping A-frame dry cabins to a cozy renovated RV with full amenities or a retro-vintage camper by the creek. Tents with setup are available for rent and you can purchase a 6 pack of eggs from the farm for your next meal.  Wildlife As you explore the natural beauty of our homestead, you can also marvel at the wildlife. You'll see deer, turkey, lots of birds, and sometimes even bears. The night time is just as exciting as the stars fill the skies and you experience the light show of the fireflies in season.  We believe our space is the perfect getaway for anyone looking to relax and breathe in better days. Come join us and create unforgettable memories! Plans We are building an educational homestead with farm stays here in rural SW Virginia to include dining experiences and food preservation classes. Our 35 acre farm is located on a mountainside with beautiful views of the Clinch Mountain. Our location is rural and peaceful with abundant wildlife. Deer, Racoons, Opossums, Bobcats, Bear, Fox, Groundhogs, and Turkey have been spotted on the property. We are a great spot for bird watching as well! Camp Grassland: Two of our prepped campsites are on a flattened area of the hillside field with access to a fire pit, log bench, and porta-potty. This location is in direct sun with beautiful views and easy access from the road. Parking at the top of the field is recommended unless you have a 4WD vehicle.  Cabin Breazy: Situated at one of the highest points on the property, Cabin Breazy is our cozy, off-grid, dry A-frame cabin surrounded by mountain views. Farmhouse Holler: 2nd Campsite is located next to our old farmhouse on a lower section of the property. Its near the natural spring and is shaded. There are no convenient bathroom facilities at this location so it is recommended to bring your own. Reaching the porta-potty would require an extensive uphill hike or driving around to the other entrance. To reach this campsite, the driveway could be considered rough terrain so drive slowly. Lowered vehicles or those with little ground clearance are not recommended.  Each campsite has a max occupancy of 2 people. If you need space for more campers, please reach out to us about how many are in your party. We can host groups with advanced notification. Overlanding vehicles are welcome. Attractions: If you are looking for birds-eye view of the area, visit the Mendota Fire Tower only 3.2 mile away. You can see it from the farm and see the farm from it. It's about a 15 minute hike from the road. You can choose the mildly challenging way up or take the old roadway for a smoother walk. Clinch River is only 20 minutes away. Cool off in the river or enjoy kayaking and tubing opportunities from Clinch River Adventures. Closest convenience store is about 15 minutes away. Closest Grocery store is about 20 minutes away. Friendly-leashed pets are welcome on the property. Remember to always keep your pet tethered as we have free roaming animals on the property. Never leave pets unattended on the property. Ted's Wildlife Habitat

6 sites · RVs, Tents90 acres · Tannersville, VA
Once a dairy farm for over 200 years, we acquired the property 18 years ago and immediately started on the task of reverting the property back to it's pre dairy farm state. Working with the Forestry department and other agencies, we have reforested over 30 acres with over 6,000 trees. We have also created a wildlife habitat ( Wildlife corridor) which has succeeded in bringing back species of birds that have long been gone from the valley. Additionally, the pond in the back of the property was dying, now it is thriving! No logging on this property since 1964 and we plan to keep it that way. Just today, there were a bunch of wild turkeys in the front field which is now encircled with chinquapins. We are happy to announce that starting in the Fall, we begin the process of converting the final 9 acres of hay into wild flower fields. This has been in the works for years and we are so excited that it is finally happening! Learn more about this land: Allen has carved out some beautiful sites for you to choose from with awesome views of the western Virginia mountains. Looking for privacy? You've got it here. You get away for privacy, not crowds. Choose  your own special piece of paradise. The property has multiple fields, the side of a forest covered mountain, and sites along the creek. We back up to Jefferson National Forest. This property is really more for the tent camper that does not need a lot of amenities. If you have a small RV ( like a tear drop) or vehicle you can sleep in, we do have flat fields that can accommodate you. Note, there is no water or electrical hookup. We have a nice pond in the back of the property located just before the mountain starts. We are more than happy to hike up the "hill" with you and show you some tent sites with spectacular views. Great for bird watchers and bikers alike!

CR Adventure Outpost

7 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents93 acres · Coeburn, VA
Strategic Location for peaceful camping with lots of nearby options. Camping is very primitive and rustic as new amenities come online in planned future. The best time of booking is the weekend at present. We have: Wooded/Grassy hills with plenty of tree cover and open space to spread out . A uniquely positioned community fire pit is available with an impressive view.  It is very rustic and primitive, but well kept, quiet, secluded, with developing  surroundings.  There is direct access to Jefferson National Forest and miles of hiking, biking and horseback trails. Equestrians encouraged, but is Bring your own horse and Tie Line. Nearby sites include Bark Camp Lake, Guest River Gorge, Bear Rock, Little Stony Falls, Chief Benge Trail, Devils Bath Tub, and High Knob. We are also located along several driving and scenic routes to include: Backroads of the Cumberland's, Appalachian Backroads, Virginia Wildlife and Birding Trail, and Thomas Jefferson Scenic Byway (Rt. 72). In addition, within a short drive there is an ATV trailhead in the local town. The Clinch River is not far at all as well.  There is a small quaint downtown less than 5 miles with grocery, gas, supplies, and a few places to eat. Mission: The original idea for CR Adventure Outpost came many years ago. We grew up visiting "Grandparents" in Wise County and developed a deep love for the area, the outdoors, and all it had to offer. There came a point, , when we realized that the amount of outdoor activities and authentic cultural experiences could indeed support visitors. It could also support many business opportunities once everyone became aware of what was all around them. At that point, a process began of research and planning on ideas some thought were pointless. People deeply want to get back to nature and withdrawal from a fast paced materialistic society, at least long enough to realize what is really important in life. There is a huge need and vast opportunity to take advantage of the many beautiful landscapes in Southwest Virginia.

Kennedy Historic Farm

9 sites · RVs, Tents165 acres · Cleveland, VA
This camping experience takes place on a 200+ year old farm. We currently offer 8 camping options, 7 of which are all accessible by either all-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive vehicles.  The first location (along the main road) is solely for RVs or travel trailers (TT). The other 7 camping locations are for tent camping, and much smaller/narrower and rugged RV/TT with a 4-wheel drive towing vehicle. Daniel and Cherith Kennedy purchased this 164-acre farm in 2014, and Daniel's parents, Brent Rita Kennedy, purchased the 1800's era farmhouse from Daniel and Cherith a couple years later. Together, we have transformed this farm back into a working farm with hay fields, cattle, donkeys, goats, sheep, chickens and any other critters we buy or rescue. We are currently rehabilitating the 1700's era one room schoolhouse at the front corner of our land as well. This farm is full of memories, hard work, and is absolutely stunning. Your hosts on-site are Brent and Rita Kennedy, and they are famous for spoiling our guests rotten. They can give you tours of the farm, some in-season eggs and veggies as they have available, and even throw in some goat-petting opportunities. They love having visitors and are sure to make your trip memorable.

Harvest Table Farm

1 site · RV, Tent2 acres · Meadowview, VA
Nestled deep within the pristine embrace of an ancient holler in the heart of the Appalachians, lies a rustic yet enchanting campsite on an organic farm. The holler, a natural valley between rolling hills and lush foliage, is a place untouched by modernization, where the symphony of nature's harmonious notes takes center stage. Upon arriving at the campsite, you're immediately greeted by the earthy aroma of fertile soil and the sweet perfume of wildflowers that paint the landscape in vibrant hues. The campsite is tucked behind a rustic red barn on the only piece of flat land in these rolling hills. The sounds of the holler at night are a mesmerizing symphony: the gentle babbling of a nearby creek, the serenading crickets, the occasional hoot of an owl, and the rustling leaves that whisper secrets in the breeze. Fireflies flicker like stars, providing a natural light show that compliments the twinkling celestial bodies above. One of the highlights of this campsite is its connection to the regenerative farm. Campers can participate in farm-to-table experiences, taking part in harvesting fresh produce, collecting eggs from free-range chickens, or learning about regenerative farming practices from the dedicated farmers who call this land home. For those seeking adventure beyond the campsite, there are nearby woods for walking and a hidden waterfall a short drive away. In this campsite on an organic farm in a pristine holler of the Appalachians, the modern world fades into the background, allowing the beauty of the natural world to take center stage. It's a place where tranquility, community, and the wonders of nature intertwine, leaving a lasting impression on all who have the privilege to experience it.

Refugio Entre Pinos

2 sites · RVs38 acres · Marion, VA
Originally homesteaded and farmed by settlers in the late 1800s/early 1900s, this property is part of the Blue Ridge Mountains. You can still view remains of the old stone wall the original settlers built by hand on the edges of the property! The Blue Ridge, part of the Appalachian range, was created by the uplifting of the Earth's tectonic plates 1.1 billion to 250 million years ago, making them the 2nd oldest Mountain Range in the world! You will also be able to view huge growths of Mountain Laurel growing in the Pines and maybe catch it in full bloom. The White Pines were planted over 30 years ago. We are 5 miles from Marion, VA: home of The Lincoln Theatre and Emory-Henry Medical College, and a small community hospital. Also close to Hungry Mother State Park (hiking, swimming, paddling, and fishing), Mt Rogers Recreational Area (where the highest peak in Virginia can be found!), George Washington-Thomas Jefferson National Forests, Grayson Highland State Park (where you can view wild ponies!), the Back of the Dragon (motorcyclists' dream ride on Rt. 16), the Appalachian Trail (accessible just 2 miles away!), The Virginia Creeper Trail, The Crooked Road Music Trail, Bristol Motor Speedway, the Carter Family Fold, Abingdon, VA (Barter Theatre), and Bristol VA/Bristol TN. We are also close to mountain stream fishing, small lake fishing, swimming area & beach (In Hungry Mother SP), wildlife management areas & miles of trails in different parks that offer tons of natural amenities and outdoor opportunities. You will be close enough for day trips to Burke's Garden, VA, Blacksburg/Christiansburg/Roanoke area, Hillsville, Floyd, Independence, Galax, Mouth of Wilson, or the Sparta area of North Carolina. Learn more about this land: Recent upgrade: 50 Amp electrical service, as well as 30 Amp and 120 Volt power! This is a FULL HOOK-UP, VERY EASY PULL THROUGH SITE!-WATER, SEWAGE, AND 50/30amp/120 volt ELECTRICITY. EASY PULL THRU IN/OUT! Water is filtered well-water; potable and what we drink but you may wish to have your own bottle water for food/drinking use.  CLOSE TO HUNGRY MOTHER STATE PARK, GRAYSON HIGHLANDS STATE PARK, JEFFERSON NATIONAL FOREST, MOUNT ROGERS RECREATIONAL AREA, THE VIRGINIA CREEPER TRAIL, THE TRANSVIRGINIA BICYCLE ROUTE, AND THE APPALACHIAN TRAIL!  Convenient to I-81 and Route 16- Back of the Dragon.  We just added a new driveway connection to make it even easier to pull back onto the road!  This area has a very different climate than many other parts of Virginia. We are located in a Köppen Climate Classification Zone Cfb, which is a Temperate Oceanic Climate (or sometimes called Marine West Coast Climate). Yes, the Southwest Mountains of VA have a maritime climate! Think Coastal Alaska, Pacific Northwest, or British Columbia to get an idea of our climate. All of which means our summers are cooler (average of 83 in August) with low humidity, and our winters are milder. So this is a great place to escape the hot humid Virginia summers!  We experience four true seasons, and the colors in the fall season are some of prettiest on the East Coast and perfect for leaf peeping!  We have deer, wild turkey, bear, chipmunks, raccoons, wild rabbits, Whip-poor-wills, and opossums on the property. Plus, the fireflies at night can be beautiful!  Plus, we've yet to see a mosquito!  You will be the only camper on the property, my RV is on site and is used as  guest quarters when I have company, but this is rare. There is no cell phone coverage and limited strength wifi, so unplug and relax!  The Camping Site is part of our mountainside property located in Long Hollow and sits on the edge of 7 acres of pasture, which leads to 7 acres of White Pine Forest you are welcome to use for walking, wildlife viewing, dog walking, etc.. It is conveniently located less than 2/10s a mile from Rt. 16, and 5 miles from I-81. Our neighbors are quiet but you may hear their donkey braying or chickens clucking. We ask that you do not disturb the neighbors or interact in any way with their animals. There is a Firepit and Picnic Table for your use. I try to keep a supply of firewood on hand which you are welcome to use, but if I run out you may have to get some wood elsewhere. You can scavenge fallen wood to burn.....
