Your host Val has walked away from her life as a tenured graphic design professor for a passion that is probably her true calling. Inspired by travels and a youth immersed in girls scouts, I created this retreat center and camp for the opportunity to relish in nature, put away the phone and get back to craft, conversation, and the basics of life. You'll relish in the quiet and beauty of the rural rolling foothills of Appalachia in mid-south TN. 20 minutes from any town so prepare en route. Route 99 splits the 17 acres with retreat center on one side and an 11.5 acre campground with significant river front property On The Buffalo. This is in Lewis county - of the Lewis and Clark adventurers. The Buffalo River is a class 1 and sometimes 2 river perfect for kayaking. Ask about add on options like a tour and story about the camp and animals or even a pottery lesson or art workshop.

Lazy Acres Lake

9 sites · RVs, Tents40 acres · Lexington, TN
We are located about 11 miles from exit 116 on interstate 40 in the beautiful farming community of Chesterfield, Tennessee where there's an abundance of wildlife including our own team of Khaki Campbell guard ducks and a piebald whitetail buck named Lucky who enjoys hanging out by the levee. Lake access is included with each site reservation. Life jackets required at all times for those with paddle please. Canoe rentals available upon request. Camp sites 1-3, the boat ramp and main parking area are located at the main entrance and offer gravel roads and parking. Look for the LAL logo on the left gate post. Camp site #4 the hiking trailhead and our back country campsites are located at the east entrance. Look for patriotic fence post near the road. If you end up traveling a long paved road that leads to a boat ramp with lots of parking, you zigged when you should have zagged. Turn around and lazy acres is across from where that road ends. Follow the access road along the tree line down to the water. The hiking trail is to the east across the footbridge. Look for white AT style blazes for trail markers. The blue blazes leading to each campsite. * All gates are open 24 hours when campers are present.

Tiny Dreamer Homestead

9 sites · RVs, Tents4 acres · Hornsby, TN
Welcome to Tiny Dreamer Homestead. If you are traveling through or just want to get away, we would love to host you! The land is mowed down, lush green with some trees in the middle and just all around beautiful. I just added 4 gravel Rv pads and gravel paths around the homestead as well as 6 large wildflower gardens. Right now there are no activities on the land. Just a place to stay if someone wants to camp or you can walk on the paths. If you have a golf cart, you can ride those on the property. I do own 22 chickens which are a delight and I sell farm fresh eggs. Produce coming eventually. I also rent my tiny house on wheels on Airbnb. The camp sites have not been broken in yet so the spots are not in a designated area yet. There are 4 tent camp spots to choose from. The photos you see are the areas you can choose from. I supply a fire pit for your use during your stay.

The best camping near Shiloh National Military Park guide

Overview

About

Among the serene rolling hills of southern Tennessee, this battlefield saw 23,746 casualties. This was more than the total American casualties in all previous wars combined. More than 110,000 troops met in an epic struggle for control of the Confederacy.

The Battle of Shiloh was a miserable experience on a massive scale. Among the miles of nature trails and paved roads are monuments to fallen heroes. Obelisks and statues show where key events of the two-day battle took place. A 12.7-mile auto tour route has 20 tour stops. Visit such famous places as the Peach Orchard, the Hornet's Nest, and the Albert Sidney Johnston death site.

Amid the monuments are preserved artifacts. View earthen fortifications where units tried to protect their positions. Cabins and buildings served as places to hide from the fierce volleys of gunfire. Cannon placements show where artillery tried to bombard enemy positions.

South of Shiloh lies Corinth, Mississippi. The town harbors another battlefield site, historic homes used by Civil War generals, and more fortifications. Corinth held a key railroad junction through the southern territory. This was the main target of Union troops at Shiloh. Controlling the railroad paved the way for an eventual invasion of the Confederacy.

Nearby campsites provide a home base for a fantastic vacation. Take time out from your nature hikes and mountain climbs to learn about a pivotal Civil War battle.
