Yup, it’s a gravel pit, but it’s surrounded by beauty. Easy place to park our Skoolie. Very close to the Badlands. Our Starlink got great service. We felt very safe and secluded.

Nature-filled Gem
We read the mixed reviews and weren't sure what to expect. When we arrived, Angela drove us to several different options for places to set up. I could see how people would have different experiences depending on the site, their setup, how much they explore, weather, bugs (we weren't bothered by any), and their preferences.
For our family with three kids (new to hipcamp and popup campers), this was a total gem. We added on a night and would come back!
Some notes:
- The location in a valley so it feels protected from wind but you still can see plenty around you and don't feel like you're in a valley. You can walk up to the ridge for more expansive views.
- We loved exploring the land! We saw deer, a skunk, and a turkey-ish family. We saw snake skin, a cattle skull, a bird nest, and signs of a beaver by the Cheyenne River.
- Kids couldn't walk barefoot like they typically do because of various prickly plants-- which is to be expected with the terrain in the region.
- Kids could have played all day sorting through rock piles and surfing down the gravel.
- The composting toliet setup in a mini tent tucked behind the trees was simple and is what it is. It was a nice back-up option we didn't use.
Thanks, Angela, for the opportunity to stay on your property.

Quiet and Private.
Nice quiet site. Angela was accommodating and easy to work with. Helped us locate a convenient shady site.

Great views and super private.. Tons of space to set up. Owner was super helpful. Great rock hounding spot. Tons of space to wander and walk the dogs. Cattle walked by often. 10 mins to Wall, 1hr to Mt' Rushmore and 35 mins to Rapid City. Awesome Boondocking site.

Location + The Great Outdoors
Angela couldn't be nicer and the location is AMAZING. However, I suggest you consider yourself a pretty hearty Hip Camper to enjoy this spot.
On the positive side: It is remote and isolated. You are sure to have your privacy. You are surrounded by nature and there are no neighbors nearby.
The walk to the river is difficult, but worth it. The host is friendly and wonderful. Our dog loved roaming free.
On the possible drawbacks (depending on your tenacity): There are a lot of insects; red ants, mosquitos, flies, and ticks. There is wildlife; my dog found her very own black/white kitty to play with (AKA skunk) the very first night we were there. She also found fresh bull dung to roll in the second day. This is no fault of the host, but you should know what's possible. Angela was wonderful and brought us rags, buckets, dog shampoo and even some essential oils to help with the smell.
In the end, I would say this campsite in relative closeness to the Badlands is terrific, but you best be ready for the great outdoors and then some.
