Robert's Redneck Retreat, LLC

3 sites · Lodging74 acres · Doniphan, MO
Robert's Redneck Retreat is located on about 16 acres of pasture and 58 acres of forested land with a creek and trails running through it. Our property also adjoins 1200 acres of the Mark Twain National Forest, dotted with springs, trails, rivers, lakes, ponds and breathtaking views. We have three small cabins on the property that are spaced out for privacy. There are also potential for tent camp sites. My husband and I love nature, farming, gardening, and sharing time with like-minded individuals. Our dream is small scale hobby farming adjoined with cabin rentals, allowing trees to regrow in places that were once pasture in order to do our part to help maintain habitat for wild animals and plants. It is a balance that we love and it is our pleasure to share this property with you. We are new here, but we are not new to the camping world; we have been helping campers have positive experiences since 2013 and already have over 170 positive reviews on Airbnb. We would love for Hip Campers to come experience our brand of cabin camping, with farm and forest experiences.A little history of the surrounding area: The Mark Twain National Forest was stripped by loggers in the 1800's and was purchased by the government as a preserve. Since then, it has regrown into hardwood forest, dotted with remnants of pine. It feels wild and untouched, despite knowing it's history. And within it, it harbors all manner of waterways, wildlife, plants, and fungi beyond your imagination. We love southern Missouri and hope you come catch a taste of the wildness that is the Forest. Disconnect, unplug, lose your cell signal, and come find yourself in the woods :)

Calico Camp

2 sites · RVs1 acre · Calico Rock, AR
Calico Camp is a lovely, shady spot on private property about 2 miles from Calico Rock Main Street and the White River. Rich in history and great fishing. Bring your boat and kayak. Or, you can rent one in town. There are fishing guides available, too. I moved here in 2016 from Atlanta, Georgia. I actually lived in an RV in a beautiful park for several years there. And, loved it! I thought I was going to do that here, but changed my mind when I found this sweet little house on a couple of acres. Deer visit us, and bunnies make their homes here. I have cats and dogs of my own. I work at the Calico Rock Museum and invite you to visit us. We have a wonderful Heritage Center and a gallery/gift shop with works of art created by local artisans. Visit the websites: CalicoRockMuseum.com and ExploreCalico.com Learn more about this land: Nice, private, shady. Easy to get to from Hwy. 56. About 2 miles from the White River and Main Street Calico Rock. Turn from Hwy. 56 can be tricky for big rigs because of a ditch at Jones Street. Left hand turn is easier than right hand turn. You can use the parking lot across the street to help you back your rig into the campsite. We have permission from the owner to do that. There is room for your boat, too. Pets are welcome. Close to grocery, bank, gas. The White River is famous for its trout fishing. Deer hunting in the area, too. (Not on this property.) The hookups are on the left side (right side if you back in). You may need extensions for your power and sewer. I have them available, if you don’t have your own. PLEASE TAKE YOUR TRASH WITH YOU WHEN YOU LEAVE. Clean up your spot and make it welcoming for the next Hipcamper. Thank you so much.

The best camping near Grand Gulf State Park guide

Overview

About

Grand Gulf State Park, often referred to as the 'Little Grand Canyon', offers a unique outdoor experience with its dramatic collapsed cave system. Visitors can embark on an adventure through the park's scenic trails, marvel at the natural bridge spanning 250 feet, and engage with the rich history through interpretive programs. While camping isn't available, the park's day-use areas provide ample opportunities for picnicking and hiking amid the Ozarks' rugged beauty.

When to go

The best time to visit Grand Gulf State Park is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural beauty of the park is at its peak. Summer months can be hot, and winter may bring closures due to weather, so plan accordingly for the most enjoyable experience.

Know before you go

  • Check the park's status for any temporary closures due to weather or maintenance before your visit.
  • Wear appropriate footwear and exercise caution if you venture to the gulf floor, as there is no official trail.
  • Be aware that park buildings and staff are unavailable on certain holidays, so plan your visit around these dates.
  • Park hours are from 8am to dusk, and gates operate accordingly for visitor safety.
  • For a deeper understanding of the park's geology and history, look out for the interpretive signs throughout the area.
