Prayer Mountain
Derailed in Deerfield
We did not stay at the this sight. We drove down the side of the railroad tracks and could not find the sight. We ran into a railroad employee in a truck and asked if he knew where the campsite was. He had no idea and told us it was dangerous to be out here beside the tracks, At that point a train with at least 50 cars passed us within 10 feet of my vehicle. We did find the parking area which lead. up to a tenting site up the mountain. I had indicated on my reservation that I had a slide in camper on my truck. The parking area was 20 yds. from the tracks which was obviously not acceptable. Joel was extremely gracious in refunding our money, but I don't know how this could possibly be considered safe and acceptable as a Hip Camp site. I was excited about the whole Hip Camp concept when looking for a sight in this area, but obviously extremely disappointed in the outcome. Does this organization actually review sights to see if they are acceptable and safe????? If not WTF!!!!

Prayer Mountain
Overall we had a decent time. The site was clean and clear and once we found it it had a solid lot to park in. Make sure to bring traction shoes because the path up is covered in leaves and a bit steep. Unfortunately, we felt it was not clear how often the train passed. In the afternoon and evening it passed once an hour, and was very loud and long. The last train at 8:30/845 woke us up from sleeping (since it was dark by 5, difficult to stay awake) and that was quite alarming. I wish the train schedule was made clearer to us. Perhaps this is just a winter thing.

Prayer Mountain
Great secluded stay.
Great secluded property with A little bit of hiking too. According to Google maps there’s a graveyard in the middle of the woods nearby but didn’t check it out, too spooky. The train is a cool touch and only comes by around 10AM and 7PM. Keep an eye out for railroad spikes in the gravel. Bright stars at night.

Quick trip, good location
We were in town for music so it was a quick visit but great location. The proximity to the road didn't bother us at all, we heard the train go by in the morning but again not a big deal. Looks like a nice place to explore if we had more time.

Prayer Mountain
Relaxing and Peaceful
We had a great long weekend camping at Joel's site. The site was well marked and easy to find, with parking right there, which was nice. The camp is private, quiet and relaxing, but also close to lots of hiking options, as well as the Deerfield River. We wish we could have stayed even longer and definitely hope to be back in the future!

Prayer Mountain
I highly recommend Prayer Mountain for anyone who wants to get away and unplug. Short .4 miles from the driveway along a train track service road and you’re at the camp site. You truly feel as if you’re in the middle of no where. The campsite was very clean and located right next to a flowing creek and mini waterfall which provides great background noise. We saw a few trains go by which was cool to watch, definitely adds a unique element to the experience. Joel was an amazing host and was great at answering questions and providing advice on getting to the site. I hope to be back, I had a great time at Prayer Mountain and you will to.
