McCormick Artisans Woods/River

3 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents33 acres · Jonesville, MI
We bought this property in 2012 and have built several buildings and forged paths throughout the 32 acres. Our road is part of the North Country Trail, a footpath stretching over 4,600 miles from Middlebury in central Vermont to Lake Sakakawea State Park in central North Dakota. While tearing down the existing house, we constructed two bedrooms in the pole barn for a quick living space. Once settled in the pole barn, we a built a small log cabin with already felled timbers from the local woods, except for the box frame which was purchased from the local Amish. Prior to building our permanent log cabin home, this small cabin was our camp site and is now being rented to people that want to relax and enjoy the outdoors. In the middle of the woods, we created a campground to be enjoyed and on the North side of our property is a tree line between two fields that is a great small camper/tent camping spot.

Many years ago, this property thrived as a bustling orchard. Today, as you wander through, you might just stumble upon one of the few remaining fruit trees, a sweet reminder of its history. Country Bungalow

1 site · Lodging1 acre · Fort Wayne, IN
We bought this one acre property tucked in the corner of the woods a little more than 2 years ago from the family who built it and lived here for 69 years. It was all original since 1946! The dairy and the farmland around us has been family-owned for over 100 years! Our little acre has become a sweet little hidden secret to all who visit. Quiet and beautiful, yet close to all the quaintness Fort Wayne has to offer. The sunrises are amazing! For nature lovers, there are so many different birds that frequent our trees, even an occasional Bald Eagle! We have renovated the tiny shed into an occasional repurpose shop and now are opening it up for a comfortable glamping spot! We continue to work on renovating our home to eventually welcome more guests. We feel like God saved this sweet spot just for us, so we can't help but share it with others! We hope all who stay, feel the same!

The best camping near Pokagon State Park guide

Overview

About

At the heart of Indiana’s lake-studded Steuben County, Pokagon State Park is an outdoor playground for all four seasons. Almost 14 miles of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails wind their way through the wetlands and forests down to the vast shores of Lake James and Snow Lake, where you can rent a motor boat, fish for bass and crappie, or cool off with a swim at the lakeside beach. In winter, enjoy cross-country skiing, go ice fishing, or whizz up to 40mph on the legendary toboggan run. Campers have options, too: Pokagon State Campground has more than 250 electric and non-electric sites.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. You can reserve sites at Pokagon Campground online via the Indiana State Parks Reserve America website.
  2. Online reservations can be made up to six months in advance.
  3. Campsites can book up as fast, especially for holiday weekends, so book at least three months in advance.

When to go

Camping is possible all year round at Pokagon State Park, but there are two distinct seasons. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, make the most of the swimming beach and warm weather activities from hiking to volleyball. November typically marks the start of the snow season, with cross-country ski trails and the toboggan run staying open through Feb, weather-depending. Expect crowds over the summer and Christmas holidays.
