In 2003, we moved onto our 10-acre family property which had previously been a hog farm before my family purchased it when I was a small child. We began in 2014 as a little hobby farm lovingly called Hippie Chick N Farm with a couple pet goats and some chickens for eggs. Within the month we were asked to rescue an infant pot bellied pig, Ollie, knowing nothing about pigs we had to do a lot of research and found there was an incredible need for homes for unwanted pet pigs. A few months later we rescued a female to be Ollie's friend who turned out to be pregnant and had 6 babies on Christmas Eve, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet & Cupid. Dasher, being the first born and only spotty baby of the litter became Dasher the Flying Pig, the future sanctuary namesake. From then we continued to rescue pigs when contacted and officially gained 501c3 charitable status in 2019 under the name Flying Pig Animal Sanctuary at Hippie Chick N Farm, Inc. We are now home to over 100 beautiful animal friends. This includes pigs, chickens, goats, ducks, dogs, cats, fish, guinea pigs, peafowl, Jordy the Torty, a 100 lb African Sulcata Tortoise and a parrot in a pear tree. We have a small organic garden that we are expanding and we are working to become self sustainable, we compost and recycle and live a kind and compassionate lifestyle. Follow us on social media at Flying Pig Animal Sanctuary and also Hippie Chick N Farm.

The property was beautiful and seeing all the animals they are helping made our stay even more special. We were fortunate enough to stay the day after one of their fundraisers and witnessed the animals getting a pumpkin feast. We felt safe and welcomed by the hosts and animals alike. If we’re ever in the area we would absolutely stay again.

A weekend stay in Cairo
Tent · Group trip
Our group of 6 were in the area for an activity and had a two night stay. We set up tents by the campfire area. The ground was very well maintained and comfortable. The hot water in the shower was amazing!! Skye was a lovely host and shared information about the animals at the sanctuary. The animals were very friendly. The senior goat was an absolute sweetheart. We opted for the vegan breakfast on our last morning and loved it. Will definitely stay here again next time we're in the area.

Tent
Loved camping here! My friend and I - both 18 yr old females felt super comfortable staying here. We arrived at night and skye was ready to greet us and showed us spots we could set up. We tent camped under her fairy lights by the fire pit which was the perfect spot! Wish we were able to stay longer and explore more!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights and it was a very enjoyable weekend vacation. The animals are all very human friendly (especially Freya the pup :) ) and the property is very well maintained. Would definitely stay again! I recommend bringing a grill or camping stove for cooking, but there is a community bonfire on the property!
