This area is part of a rich history showcasing the westward expansion, gold mining and simple pursuits. Just step outside the cabin to access miles of single track through the Tahoe national forest, or jump in your car to access lakes, rivers and streams within a 10 minute drive. Snowboarding and; skiing is a 25 minute drive away and snowshoeing and; cross country skiing can start right off the front deck! Come relax in your own private off grid cabin with a cozy loft and a view of Tahoe National Forest. At just over 5,000 feet in elevation and a dirt road drive Muir's Muse is the perfect place to disconnect. A three minute walk will get you to the Pioneer Trail which is a 25 mile non-motorized trail meandering through Tahoe National Forest, Bear Valley, and mountain lakes at its terminus. Open to hikers, bicyclists, equestrians and all lovers of the outdoors, the adventures are endless! Although there is cell service, there is no electricity or running water. There is an outdoor fire ring, a pit toilet on site and a portable heater and small camp stove for you to use... Just bring your own small propane canisters. I had a race in Truckee but we decided to stay here since we had our dogs. And we loved it! Directions were clear, no surprises about the place. You can hear the freeway in the valley but that wasn't bad at all. We didn't explore the trails and the water holes since we were already busy, but they look amazing! We'll come back!

A very unique site! And close to so many great hikes and activities. We arrived towing a teardrop trailer (17ft) and while the dirt road did get narrow leading up to the site it then opened up and there was space to get the trailer turned around and backed into the site. The little house was fun for the kids to have a unique camping experience. Lots of shade. Very quiet. Bring bug spray.

Enjoy the nature!
We had an amazing time, the views and trees were gorgeous. The host was kind and welcoming. They were so kind that they forgave me when my kids accidentally packed the stove that was provided with the property! I was so grateful when the hosts understood and allowed me to venmo them for the replacement. I am mortified but planning to come back soon.☺️

Secluded cabin in the woods!
Such a nice private spot. The cabin was charming and the floor bed actually quite comfortable. Didn’t stay long since I’m on a California road trip but was a great place for camp cooking and relaxing. Only thing, it was quite difficult for me to figure out where to turn into since the roads seem to be newly built, construction area beforehand but I didn’t hear anything during the stay. Lots of buggies and bees too! Overall would come again, thanks!

A Perfect Weekend Getaway
We enjoyed our stay at this cozy little cabin. The cabin and the area around the cabin are clean and well-maintained. We enjoyed sitting around the fire and on the cabin deck just looking at the nature around. There is a clearing in the trees too, so you can look up at the stars on a clear night and actually see the Milky Way. We spent a little time in Nevada City. We also hiked Spaulding Lake via Pioneer Trail, which was gorgeous this time of year. There are a lot of other options for hikers of all levels in the surrounding area. We would love to come back in the spring and bring our bikes and paddle boards to explore some of the other lakes in the area. We did get turned around on our way in the first night because there is some road construction currently underway and the turnoff to Lowell Hill Road is no longer at the same location. They have moved the turnoff up about an eighth of a mile. Not a huge difference, but if you're not prepared for it, you might miss it. Also, I wouldn't recommend bringing young children (Tots and Prek-2nd grade-ish kiddos). There is a sloped drop-off on the far side curving around near the back of the cabin. There could be some falls and rolls down that slope. Also, the lofted area (which is very comfortable and warmer for sleeping) isn't suitable for younger kids. It doesn't have a railing up there. Overall, we fell in love with Muirs Muse and will almost certainly be back, perhaps for a longer stay next time.
