Unique and peaceful Lost Sierra retreat within feet of Big Grizzly Creek. 5 minutes from Lake Davis. Minutes from Grizzly Ranch Golf Club. 1 hour from Reno, and 2.5 hours from Sacramento. Nestled among towering trees and serene natural surroundings, The Retreat at Big Grizzly Creek is a tranquil haven located within feet of a gently flowing creek. As you enter the campsite, the refreshing sound of water trickling over smooth rocks immediately captures your attention, creating a symphony of nature's melodies. The Retreat is located within minutes of the small railroad town of Portola, CA, 5 minutes from the boat launch at Lake Davis, and a couple of minutes from the public golf course, Grizzly Ranch. The property the campsite is on is over 3 acres with the creek being the western border. The property has numerous overlooks of the creek and surrounding fauna with a short hike. Currently, I am building a trail and a sitting area over the most perfect view atop a rock outcropping, perfect for sipping coffee in the morning or beer. No judgment here! We have big plans for this little piece of the earth we own and are excited the share it with you.Nestled among towering trees and serene natural surroundings, The Retreat at Big Grizzly Creek is a tranquil haven located within feet of a gently flowing creek. Site Guidelines Now for the guidelines and rules: DO NOT USE ANY MAPPING SERVICE DIRECTIONS TO THE SITE!! You will not make it to the site and will be trespassing on others' land. Use only the directions I give once you reserve the site. There is only available parking for one vehicle only. Please be mindful of the neighbors and don't block any roads or gates. This campsite is primitive, meaning there is no running water. Drinking water will be provided in the 5-gallon jug and one or two 30-gallon barrels with a pump to refill depending on your length of stay. Metal trash cans with bags will be provided and will be in the general vicinity of the tent. Please remove all trash and take it with you. Pack it in! Pack it out! The access to the campsite will be by a single-lane dirt road which can be muddy at times and will have landowner traffic coming both ways. There are some rocky sections, but if my neighbor can drive her Lexus down there, most any cars will make it. This is a private road with private property, please be mindful of neighbors and keep your speed to 10 mph or lower to keep the dust at a minimum. The campsite is in a wildfire-prone area and all burning rules will be followed. Meaning, the fire pit may not always be available. A propane fire pit will be provided during that time. No smoking (including vape) inside the tent or within its general area. A proper outhouse with a sawdust toilet is available. Biodegradable bags, toilet paper, and sawdust will be provided. Please take all the waste with you when you leave. This a quiet and relaxing campsite, not a party site. Please, no more than 4 people without permission from the owner.

The Retreat on Big Grizzly Creek
Really fantastic spot for an easy getaway—enjoy the beauty of the creekside land and secluded experience in nature, and you don’t even need to bother bringing or pitching your own tent if you don’t want to. Dan’s got everything set up for a comfortable stay on beautiful property. Would love to return.

The Retreat on Big Grizzly Creek
We had a very nice time here on this lovely land with our dog. Dan’s directions and info provided was very clear. The tent and outhouse were very clean. It was lovely hanging out surrounded by trees and with the sound of the creek, and it felt very private. It was also very quiet. It is a steep hill down to the site, the wagon definitely helped but just something to be aware of if you don’t plan on backing your car down. Thanks to Dan for opening up this space for others to enjoy.

Would move here if I could!
Pure bliss! Thank you Dan for sharing your beautiful property with us and for being a welcoming and super helpful host. We needed to get away from it all and this wee slice of heaven provided just that. Would 100% recommend if you want to recharge the batteries, get in touch with your inner self, or try to save your relationship - this is the spot for you! The tent in itself was a place of calm and retreat and we slept so well in the comfy bed. There were little touches that made it extra special and I never thought in all my days I'd love an outhouse so much! In summary, if you love peace and solitude among the trees, the rustle and company of animals that also have a home on this land, and are comfortable with the concepts and actions behind "leave no trace" then maybe you'll find it as magical as we did.

The Retreat on Big Grizzly Creek
This site is amazing! My only criticism of the site was the amount of wasps. A couple would normally be fine but as soon as we took food out there were so many we were quite uncomfortable and were nervous for the dogs. This affected our enjoyment of the site. Otherwise everything else was beautiful and done very nice.

The Retreat on Big Grizzly Creek
Sensational 🫶
One of the best places I’ve been to, loved how private everything was. The views were amazing, the lake and town were no more than 10 minutes away and the paddle board was super fun! Don’t know what was the best part waking up to river water and birds, or the hikes and nature walks. Definitely recommending and coming back a few times a year 💕

Great camping space!
The campsite was so nice and clean. A beautiful area and easy access to the river. Not many places to explore, but still a spacious area to spread out and relax. It did get colder at night than we had expected, so bring extra warm things. Great experience if you want something cute, quaint, and private. Would absolutely recommend!
