EAGLE ROCK CAMP
We camped in a tent attached to our truck bed. We had a beautiful, calm green view of the canyon and hillside. The port-a-potty on site was the cleanest and most convenient one that we have ever used--not an amenity to be taken for granted while camping! There is not much shade at the campsite after sunrise, so it was essential that we had a shade structure to get through the brutal summer heat (90 degrees felt hotter due to the humidity). The campsite is also literally located next to a back trail entrance to Topanga State Park. (And it is within 15 min. drive from the beaches!) Such prime location! One con is that the trail does not permit dogs (although we saw several people with dogs coming out of the entrance passing by the campsite.) Also notable is that you may be able to hear other hikers' voices echo from a far distance as they hike around the canyon. We also had to be watchful as the property is not completely fenced off, so a pup could slip in or out. We had minimal/no phone connection, and no water or electrical hookups, so we felt "off grid." Prior to the trip, the host Ehud provided helpful directions, and we appreciated his prompt and flexible style in communication.
EAGLE ROCK NEST
Beautiful but overbooked/no privacy
The site is beautiful and the airstream cozy, the host was communicative ahead of our stay but we felt that it lacked privacy and safety.
Pros: pretty location, accessible to lots of hiking and not far from town. Communicative host, clean airstream that actually had sheets and blankets on the bed, fresh porta potty and picnic table.
Cons: I realize we stayed over a holiday / prime camping time, but multiple incidents made us feel unsafe camping here. Know that you’ll probably see other campers and walkers around.
Our first night we had another camper stay practically on top of us on the site. We made it work but it was not what either of us had in mind for peaceful camping.
The host told us that there was a big group staying at the site on the second night. He kindly moved them further away so we couldn’t see each other, and we didn’t meet them, other than a clearly very high man who we think was from their group who came to use the porta potty next to the camper… he blasted music and talked on the phone for like 10 minutes in there, and then and tried to stay and “hang out” until we firmly told him to leave multiple times, which made us feel really uncomfortable. Then his group (staying at the lower site) literally ordered PF Changs on Uber Eats at 10:40pm.
Having a random car pull up to your campsite after you’ve gone to bed that late is rather unsettling…
This site has potential, but I think would feel safer (esp for females campers) if kept to one group.

EAGLE ROCK CAMP
Great view! It was very peaceful and was a fun place to stay. It was great to be able to stay so close to Malibu, but still feel like I was in the mountains. Wonderful host!

EAGLE ROCK CAMP
Beautiful views and great location, we came shortly before sunset, gate was open, and our site was clear and easy to find with two picnic tables, a port a potty, and an airstream at the site. Would definitely come back!
