Discover the most magical spots to pitch your tent or park your rig on your next Canyon De Chelly National Monument adventure.
Navajo history in the midst of this stunning canyon. Authentic and awesome.
When you come to this national monument, you're actually visiting someone's home. The Navajo people still live in this canyon, it's of the longest continuously inhabited landscapes in the country.
Take a tour from an authorized Navajo guide and walk the White House Ruin Trail. Or, if time is limited, drive the North or South Rim Drive for stunning photos from the overlooks. If you hike down to the canyon floor, you'll see authentic Anasazi ruins that transport you back in time.
Keep an eye open for the artisans selling jewelry, musical instruments and pottery—You'll find some amazingly beautiful mementos.
Camping is available, courtesy of the Navajo Nation. No reservations—Campsites are first-come, first-served, with no hookups available. But you'll feel as if you're in your own private Grand Canyon. Stay hydrated (you're in the desert, after all)—And give yourself enough time to explore this magical park.
The best time to visit Canyon de Chelly National Monument is during spring and fall, when the weather is mild and the natural beauty is at its peak. Summer months can be extremely hot, and winter may bring snow, making some areas inaccessible. Plan your visit between April to May or September to October for an optimal experience.
