Camping near Green River

While Yellowstone National Park might get much of Wyoming’s fame, southwestern Wyoming offers charms of its own, with rugged natural landscapes and historic small towns like Green River. The namesake waterway ripples through town, providing a spot for paddling and fishing in its gentle waters. South of town, the riverway is dammed, creating a natural playground in Utah’s Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. Public camping may be found in Ashley, Shoshone, and Bridger national forests, while tent and RV sites may be found on private lands offering expansive views of high desert landscapes filled with sagebrush and juniper. At night, the region’s dark skies make the stars seem brighter. Take a drive along the Pilot Butte Wild Horse Scenic Loop for the chance to see the region's herd of wild horses.
