Enjoy year-round recreation and alpine air at a cabin near this Washington lake.
Drive east from Seattle for a couple of hours and you'll find yourself at Lake Wenatchee, a massive alpine lake that attracts anglers and paddlers in the summertime and cross-country skiers and snowshoeing enthusiasts come winter. Its a great place for a forest cabin getaway, but if youre looking for a cabin, youll likely need to rent a private vacation rental. None of the handful of cabins managed by the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest are near the lake, and Lake Wenatchee State Park only offers tent and RV camping. Fortunately, lots of private vacation rentals sit in the general vicinity, particularly in the area around Leavenworth, a Bavarian-inspired village about a half-hour drive south of the lake. More options still can be found among the apple orchards of Wenatchee, the largest town in the area, about an hours drive southeast of the lake. Take your pick of rustic log cabins or modern winter chalets complete with a wood stove, fire pit, full kitchen, and linens.
