About a 90-minute drive southeast of Seattle will take you to tiny Greenwater, a little town in the forest, due north (as the crow flies) of the towering summit of Mount Rainier. It's a year-round destination, attracting skiers in the winter, many of whom stop on their way to Crystal Mountain Resort, a half-hour drive south of town. The summer months draw in hikers and campers wishing to take advantage of (generally) warm and dry weather and easy access to endless swathes of forested land. Greenwater's location at the confluence of the White River and the Greenwater River is among its biggest draws, as is its proximity to Federation Forest State Park, a short drive west of town. Greenwater camping options are abundant, and range from quiet tent and RV sites on private forested land to busier public campgrounds in Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest.
