The Guinea Farm, Field, and Forest

The Guinea farm is 18 acres of feild and forest on the rural middle pennensula. Only 1 mile from 2 separate secluded beaches and a boat launch. There is verly little traffic or light polution here, nature is at your fingertips. Come visit the farm and experience agrotourism at it's finest. Pick your own veggies in the community garden and meet the Guinea fowl! Enjoy the windernes and learn about the local ecosystem here on the middle pennensula. There are 3 sites spaced out across the 18 acres set apart for privacy. Wisteria is a primative site closer to the entrance gate. Trilogy is a suspended tree tent in the pines 700' beyond that and seperated by dense forest. Stargazer Tiny cabin is an offgrid rustic camping cabin on the back side of the property. Each site is surronded by several acres of forest and close to the edge of a large feild. There are romaing guinea fowl that may come make a very loud appearance as they canvas the property eating bugs. Deer, Turkeys, Bald Eagles, foxes, and other wildlife are common guests also. Mid-summer is what I call frog season, Tree frogs are abundant and provide a wonderful soundtrack. There are free to use bicycles, an axe throwing board, and cornhole boards available. 4 miles from shopping and dining in Mathews Virginia, 15 miles to Gwynn Island. Gwynn's Island is an island located in the Chesapeake Bay off of Virginia's Middle Peninsula. The island is located in the northeast part of Mathews County, south of the mouth of the Piankatank River. It is connected to the rest of the county by a swing bridge over Milford Haven.

Though we are not far from the city, nature definitely is the main character around here. The waterway is brackish (salt and fresh) so there is a wide array of wildlife to enjoy. Bald eagles and heron fly over daily and we often see otters, foxes and raccoons and birds galore. Guests have access to kayaks and dock (2 story) for fishing and/or relaxing. Water views from any spot on the property. We also have two friendly dogs that would love to meet you.

Come visit the farm and stay with us! We have primitive tent camping and a cozy little cabin. Blackwater Birds and Bees is a developing farm that started in 2016. If you're looking for privacy, you won't find a better place in Southeastern Virginia. It's over 100 acres on the Blackwater River with access to over 2 miles of waterfront without leaving the property. The river is much like a cypress swamp with large channels running through the middle and it creates a perfect environment for all kinds of spectacular wildlife. We have kayaks and canoes available for campers to use for free and a Jon boat with trolling motor available for rent. Fishing is permitted in our large pond and on the river. The farm currently features an apiary, vegetable garden, blueberry bushes, and animals including ducks, chickens, geese, and goats. The cabin features a full-size bed complete with linens/bedding as well as a sleeping loft for 2 additional guests. While the cabin does not have electricity or plumbing, it does have battery operated lights and an outhouse with flush toilet on site for the convenience of cabin guests. We have a farm shop stocked with local products, camping essentials, fishing gear, and much more! *If you are bringing a large camper or RV please pick site #3 or site #2.*Site #4 is about 75 yards into the woods away from the parking space.* Check us out on Instagram @blackwater_birds_and_bees

While large enough to host multiple tent sites and camping groups, we limit the availability to just one group at a time, in order to provide you with the most private experience possible. After you spend the day kayaking on the Dismal Swamp, site seeing in Portsmouth, VA, or spending your day on the Outer Banks fishing, the downtown is just a 5 minute bike ride away! Elizabeth City is an up and coming downtown, with more than 7 wine bars and breweries, 5 coffee shops, and many unique restaurants, all within walking distance of each other, the downtown is perfect place to both start your day with a fresh cup of coffee, and end it with a beer and friends. This is a beautiful, PRIMITIVE campsite. There is currently no electricity or running water. It is a “pack it in/pack it out,” campsite. Leave nothing behind but the nature the way it was when you arrived. “Cat holes,” and “pig holes,” are not authorized and will not be tolerated. For your convenience, a camping toilet will be provided as well as a camping sink.
