Our stay at Ginkgo Ridge was absolutely amazing. It was the perfect place to unwind—so peaceful, so refreshing, exactly what we needed to reset. The views were stunning, and the whole atmosphere just made us slow down and relax. John, the host, is such a kind and thoughtful guy. Communication was effortless, and he was always happy to help with anything we needed. And his pups? Absolutely adorable! We were so glad they came by for a short visit. If you're looking for a quiet escape surrounded by nature, this is the place. We’ll definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to Tiny Hidden Ridge
What a nice place to stay! I only stayed one night, but the cottage had everything I could need, and the farm was a nice quiet escape from routine. The instruction inside the cottage were a big help for dishes/toilet since there isn't running water, but the bottles of drinking water were great. I loved seeing the goats and the view of the sunset and the stars. Great stay!

Very nice A-frame cabin. The space looked well maintained and was clean/ready when we arrived. Internet was a bit slow, but not a huge deal since the main point of visiting is to unplug from all that. Also we appreciated the snacks and plenty of ready firewood onsite. Would recommend!

Staying in the tiny house was great! No running water in the winter but there was plenty of water for me to use and the space heater kept the place super cozy. Would definitely stay again if I was in the area.

I loved staying here so much! I came at an odd time of year—end of November—but it was still so gorgeous and I can’t wait to come back in the spring to see things in bloom. The outdoor toilet was the nicest I’ve experienced, the shower worked well (and had a fun painting on the door), the Cosmic Cottage is adorable and cozy, and everyone I met was friendly and helpful. I definitely wish I’d managed to arrive before dusk, but the directions were good enough I still found it without much trouble. Two weeks felt like too short a stay!

Weekend Trip to Tiny Hidden Ridge
We loved camping on Tara’s land! The views were beautiful and the animals were very friendly and adorable. The hosts went way beyond our expectations by allowing us to access to one of the tiny homes they have due to the current campfire ban. We were able to walk to Harper’s Ferry as it was only a couple miles and we saw a ton of wildlife. We would definitely recommend this to a friend! Thank you again!

Weekend Trip to Tiny Hidden Ridge
The tiny house is wonderful for a weekend getaway, the property is in a bucolic setting with access to both the town of Harper’s ferry and the Maryland Heights trail. We had a lot of fun with the goats and were visited by many deer. Limited internet access in the house but made up for it by playing games we brought, reading etc. The space heater kept us warm, ample blankets for sleeping. All in all a great little getaway

Hillary is a great host, and everyone that lives on the grounds are good people. It’s such a caring environment and intentionally curated space. And when it dropped to 34 degrees, Hillary was more than accommodating to me and my son to move us to another site! Looking forward to staying in the tree house in the Summer time and reupping on my elixirs and tinctures 🙌🏽

Looking for a personal retreat or get away ? Escape to our beautiful, RUSTIC 32 acre wild homestead / farm. A lovely balance between wild and tame. We are 10 minutes from the Potomac River, 10 minutes from Opequon Creek, 20 from Antietam Creek and 30 minutes from the Shenandoah River. Harper's Ferry is 30 minutes way and downtown Historic Shepherdstown is just down the road. We are also close to several state parks. - What do we mean by "RUSTIC" ? The camping experience we offer is about unplugging from the modern world , getting back to basics, slowing down and re-connecting with the land. Simply put, this is CAMPING .... not glamping. (Our Cosmic Cottage is also rustic, despite the amenities that come with it). - CAMPSITES and TREEHOUSE - No electricity or wifi on the land. Campsites and TREEHOUSE are nestled in the woods. So although your vehicle will be parked within 50 ft or so from site, you cannot pull directly up to the site and get any closer because of the trees. - SHOWER and PORTA POTTY - roughly a 5 minute or less walk from sites to shower and / or porta potty. Shower hours are 8 am- to 8 pm. The shower has hot and cold running water . You can drive to the shower if you need to. - RESPONSE TIME - This is a working herb farm/ sanctuary and we so do not always have our phones on us. We will make every effort to respond to you within a few hours. Please be patient and you will receive a response. -BOOKING - If you are interested in booking and / or availability, go to the HIPCAMP BOOKING CALENDAR and enter the dates you are interested in. for the most up to date accurate info on availability. - Feel free to wander through the herb gardens, eat your meals in the garden pavilion (we have picnic tables there and hammocks), get your Zen on in the meditation hut , and stroll through the woodland medicine path where we grow endangered and at at risk plant plants. (heads up.. the woodland medicine path goes to seed by the Fall and is usually munched down by the deer by then, but is still a nice short stroll in the woods).

With views over the ocean of trees and town below, we offer three private and very comfy Glamping Cabins. Each of them provides a terrific place to experience the outdoors in comfort. We make it easy and fun to experience nature. Here, you can enjoy the breathtaking vistas, watch the spectacular sunsets, chase fireflies, make a campfire, search for the Milky Way, and then sleep easy in your own queen-sized bed on this historic property. The two original, off-grid, Jefferson Sea Cabins are perched on the eastern side of Ginkgo Ridge, And the newest, the Boxwood Overlook, sits on top of the ridge and includes electricity, AC, heat and lights. Ginkgo Ridge sits on the eastern side of the Southwest Mountains, which is the first mountain range west of the Atlantic. The views are big and far. Some say you can even see Portugal! Wildlife, including eagles, hawks, turkey, fox, rabbit, deer, fireflies and more are abundant on the 66-acre property. If you are interested in history, ask John. He will tell you about the Civil War battle fought here and the tobacco baron who once owned the estate. Two of our cabins are off grid — no electric and no plumbing but with alternative water and light. The third and newest enjoys electric. While there is no "running" water, we bring you fresh spring water. And while there is no electric in 2 cabins we make up for it with solar and battery lights and fans. We also offer a propane heater in all 3 to keep you toasty in cooler weather. Both off-grid cabins are equipped with a comfy, luxury queen-sized bed and box spring with fresh linens and plenty of pillows, a chair, and tables. The cabins are approximately 12x14 of interior living space plus a semi covered 16’ x 8’ deck with chairs and table. The original cabin is slightly smaller interior than the lower cabin. The newest third cabin is called the Boxwood Overlook Cabin, because it is surrounded by huge boxwoods and overlooks the entire property. It sits where the original main house was located, but burned down in the 1920's. It is more luxurious that the other 2. It's 12x20, includes an organic queen bed, refrigerator, reclining chairs, interior and exterior lights. And you can drive right to the front door. Each cabin gets a propane heater which keeps you toasty even on the coldest winter nights. In warmer months, the 2 off-grid cabins have battery-powered fans with plenty of industrial batteries. They also enjoys plenty of solar powered torch lamps which offer a terrific ambiance. We do recommend you bring flashlights and or headlamps. If you forget, no worries, we got you covered. The Boxwood Overlook cabin has electricity with interior and exterior lights, refrigerator and AC in the summer. All the cabins enjoy 5-gallon containers of fresh spring water and their own private Loo House/bathroom. The Loo Houses or bathrooms are semi open air. They have roofs, a solar bag shower, and bedside commodes with large, disposable, biodegradable bag inside with special sand that solidifies your waste. You dispose of the bag at a nearby trash box off property, just like a diaper. Extra bags are available. Each cabin has its own fire pit and grill with everything you need to make a fire, including split wood, kindling, newspaper and lighter. Firewood is $7.50 per crate. And if you need help starting your fire, no worries, John will help you. The "Jefferson Sea" is a description many attribute to the nation's 4th President, Thomas Jefferson, who enjoyed the same ocean-like view (but better) of fields and trees below his home at Monticello, that is located 15 miles down the road. Enjoy giant Ginkgo trees (especially in the Fall), boxwood gardens, colossal Tulip Poplars, and Osage Orange trees, and wild organic raspberries in July. We support BIPOC and all are welcome to enjoy our property :) There is a 2-night minimum on weekends. Just down the hill is the historic town of Gordonsville with perhaps the best BBQ on the east coast, wine tasting room, two breweries, several cafes and restaurants, grocery store and liquor store. Within minutes are Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, James Madison’s Montpelier and some of the nation’s finest vineyards, including Barboursville Vineyard and many others. The Blue Ridge Mountains, Skyline Drive, Shenandoah National Park, the University of Virginia and downtown Charlottesville are within 30 minutes. It’s just an hour to Richmond or Harrisonburg and less than two to Washington, DC, or 3 to We are very COVID-conscious! We comply with all COVID cleaning precautions which includes cleaning hard surfaces and fresh linens PETS We love dogs! Friendly and well-behaved dogs are welcome but we have pet rules out of necessity. Prior to making your reservation, please email us and tell us about your dog, describing their breed, size, temperament, owners ability to control dog, confirm that dog will be leashed and under your control at all times and that all vaccinations and flea/tick meds are up to date.
