Metta Earth Institute (MEI) is a non-profit educational retreat center in Lincoln, Vermont. With 158 beautiful acres, we are nestled in a bowl of mountains with stunning mountain views in all directions. Meadows, pastureland, and horticultural fields are interspersed with hardwood and evergreen forest, old orchards, stonewalls, seasonal streams, and an enormous variety of wildlife habitat. Walking and hiking places abound, and a magnificent, pure river with clear pools and waterfalls is just a few minutes’ walk down the road.
MEI is based on a small-scale diversified, organic, and biodynamically oriented farm with an acre-sized retreat garden and other herb and flower gardens, and 2 food producing greenhouses. We practice regenerative agriculture, carbon farming, and many other environmentally sustainable practices.
Main House Front Porch
The front porch of the main house has continued to be a wonderful gathering place with outstanding sunset views and surrounding terraced gardens with blossoms and berries that attract hummingbirds and bees. We serve meals from the adjoining big kitchen, and these can be enjoyed on the porch or taken on trays to the nearby Plum Grove, other outdoor settings. The porch is a great place to meet with others or enjoy a place to sit and read. There is also a good internet connection on the porch and a place to charge devices.
You are welcome to walk anywhere on Metta Earth land. Or you may want to walk on the surrounding dirt roads, all with very minimal cars and great mountain views or along the river. We can give further directions and information about the region when you are here.
Our stays range from basic tent sites to Yurts and Canvas Tents. We have something for everyone.
We have four yurts nestled on a knoll among maples, beeches, balsam, and other trees. They each are positioned for a sense of privacy from the others and have little paths connecting them. They all are well loved and humble, beautiful, light filled circular spaces with a round dome skylight, lattice siding, windows with screens for summer use and in winter extra insulation provided by window quilts. Each yurt has a wood stove for colder weather. The yurts are furnished simply with various configurations of single and double beds, tables, chairs, shelving, and sheepskins or other floor rugs. At night a few of the paths are lit with solar lamps, so it is wise to bring a flashlight/headlamp as well. Beeswax candles provide inside night lighting. Some of the yurts have string, solar lights around the inside of the yurt walls.
We have 5 bell tents that are lovely, roundish shaped tents with a peak. Four of them are smaller, one-person tents, and one is larger for a couple or 2 people. We provide amattress and pillow with organic bedding and a sheepskin rug, and a simple storage crate/table. It’s a good idea to bring a sleeping bag for extra warmth, especially in the potentially colder shoulder seasons in May and in September.
If you have a tent, insulated ground mat, and sleeping gear, we have many inspiring sites in the surrounding forest glades, meadows, and fields. Those who choose to camp have access to outdoor composting toilets, a hot water outside faucet for bucket bathing, and outdoor shower available in the warmer seasons. Camping requires a certain hardiness and adequate gear. Weather during the growing season (May – October) in the mountains of Vermont is unpredictable. Temperatures range from freezing temperatures at night in the spring and fall to gloriously warm days and even hot days.

Beautiful sun rises ,star gazing and a terrific flyer fly displays. You are a stones throw away from our pond/ swimming hole. You can fall asleep with the sounds of owls, bullfrogs and crickets. We are local about two miles away from a main road nestled in a valley for peace and quiet. There are many miles of dirt roads for mountain biking or hiking. We are not far from the Connecticut river perfect for fly fishing ,tubing or kayaking. We are about 30 to 60 mins. away from many of Vermont best tourist attractions. There are great local restaurants and some nite life too. Local farmers markets, farm stands and our local Coop offer the best produce, meats cheeses and eggs that our location has to offer. Out to eat or cook at the site your tummies will be satisfied. We offer a full size bed (bring your own sleeping bags) 2 blow up sleeping mats perfect for a small family. There is also 2 camp chairs, picnic table, grill set up with utensils(bring your own charcoal), trash can w/ removal and fire pit. We will provide your first fire set up after that we offer fire wood at a small fee to abide by all state laws. (This protect us from invasive species entering our state) please do not bring wood for out of state. We offer towels for swimming ,a cloth line and solar light along with citronella candles .
We have a private outhouse for this campsite that includes toilet and sink with 5 gallons of drinkable water ,all paper products ,trash receptacle and biodegradable soaps and cleaners.

Weekend Trip to Secluded Meadow With MTB Trails
This was the coziest borderline luxury camping set up. The tent was beyond cozy after a night hike up Mansfield, the outdoor shower was such a fun touch and made our night a 12/10. Ian was a great host and met us even at 10PM to show us around! Would recommend this over a hotel room in a heart beat.

This is a wonderful place if you want to camp in the Stowe area. The tent was super comfortable, and we really enjoyed the hot water shower, which made our stay very pleasant. There's a great, lightly-used trail nearby that leads to the top of a waterfall, and we also found a secret swimming hole. It's a perfect spot for a summer trip!

This place is special!!! Gillian welcomed us and showed us the ropes. Staying in a platform tent we had option of composting outhouse or full bathroom in the yoga/ retreat center. The views of the mountains and meadows are exceptional. We learned a tiny bit about Conscious Ecology and ate delicious meals. The platform beds and tent were amazing.

Weekend Trip to The TrailHouse
Great amenities, including the super nice hot showers on a cold rainy long weekend. We had a big group which was perfect for the campsite as we could take over the many sites. Bell Tent stayed warm and dry, although some of the blankets and things were slightly damp by the end of the wet weekend, just due to the humidity. Air mattress was *very* comfy. Bike access to trails and town is unparalleled. Great vibes all around!
