Hi my name is Christina, your on-site host, and I am so excited to have the opportunity to host you at our one-of-a-kind glamping site! We're located 40 min from Kanab, 50 min from Zion National Park and 2 hours from Grand Canyon North Rim, Bryce Canyon National Park and Page, AZ. We're on 7 acres of land (all accomodations are on ~2 acres of the land) in a very rural town but please note, we do have neighbors on both sides- one of which have cows, roosters and horses. We have 3 glamping tents and 1 tiny cabin on-site (all of which are available for booking) along with a few shared spaces amongst guests: 2 covered grilling areas, a centralized fire pit and an indoor bathhouse. We are currently in the process of adding 2 more accommodations, a silo and a cave, that will be available by Summer 2024. Each glamping tent and cabin is about 30 yards apart from one another. We provide all linens and towels for guests, AC/Heater units and hot/cold water year-round. We're located at the border of Utah and Arizona in Cane Beds, AZ. Our mission is to share the “Joy” of making unforgettable memories in the mountains with friends and family. Happy Travels! Camp Joy at Kolob FAMOUS HIKES AND TRAILHEADS LOCATED BY CAMP JOY: The "Kolob Terrace" is a lesser-traveled section of Zion, accessible via the Kolob Terrace Road that heads north from the town of Virgin. The drive through the Terrace up to Lava Point offers a good sampling of wondrous views, from golden valleys to the majestic North and South Guardian Angels high in distance. The Kolob Terrace is home to one of the most popular canyons in Zion: the Left Fork of North Creek, aka. "the Subway." WEST RIM TRAIL NORTHGATE PEAKS TRAIL THE SUBWAY WILDCAT CANYON TRAILHEAD HOP VALLEY TRAILHEAD THE CONNECTOR TRAIL HOODOO CITY GRAPEVINE TRAIL LANGSTON CANYON AND LANGSTON MOUNTAIN Brief history of Camp Joy: Camp Joy is a small parcel of land given to my grandmother and her sisters by my paternal great grandfather. It was part of a larger, 2,500 acre parcel that has been used for grazing sheep the last 100 or so years. As was common in those days, the male heir inherited the larger portion to continue the family business of sheep, and the three females inherited 1 acre each. My paternal grandmother fondly recalls spending her summers exploring the flora and fauna and staying overnight in a small cabin that they called “Camp Joy.” My father, also used to visit this area during his youth and has many fond memories of when the family would “Hie to Kolob.” My grandmother, being too old to enjoy the place herself, wanted to sell her portion to someone who would be able to enjoy it in this life. She didn’t believe in restricting access to the wonderful and uniquely awe inducing land surrounding Zion National park. She knew humans are just mere stewards , temporarily living off the land that Mother Nature has so generously provided for. My father and mother also shared this vision so (with his sisters/cousins permission) he purchased her share and the two adjoining lots that were owned by his aunts and combined them so we could have a place to park our trailers in the summertime. The advent of the internet and the resurgence of people wanting to go somewhere with their families to experience the peace and tranquility one can only find in the wilds, led us to feel that sharing this slice of heaven was not only economical but the right thing to do. So much of Kolob and the surrounding areas are marked off by private property, owners who aren’t even there to enjoy it 99% of the time. So we felt divinely called to offer our humble slice of heaven to likeminded individuals, seeking tranquility and peace but for some cosmic reason didn’t stand to inherit private property in the middle of one of the most beautiful places on earth. So welcome friend. We only ask, as you leave this place, to please bring with you this spirit of abundance and joy to wherever you call home.

Mountainous camping near Kanab guide

Overview

In the heart of Kane County, Kanab rests on the Utah-Arizona state line and offers camping excursions across two beautiful states. Explore Zion National Park to the northwest—Utah’s first national park that’s home to towering canyons, winding rivers, and learning opportunities in the Zion Human History Museum. Across the border lies Grand Canyon National Park, where campers can stroll the canyon rim or ride the river for towering views. For wilderness escapes closer to Kanab, try Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. Wind can move the pink dunes up to 50 feet per year, so no two trips will ever be alike. Cruise the desert in an RV, or pitch a tent under the wide skies to admire everything that camping near Kanab has to offer.

Where to go

Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park

Hike along pink sand dunes, race over the landscape in an ATV, or catch a glimpse of rare wildlife with a trip to Coral Pink Sand Dunes. Home to Coral Pink Sand Dunes tiger beetles found only in this region, the dunes offer a unique look into the deserts of Utah and Arizona. Camping is welcome year-round in the park, where amenities include pull-through campsites, drinking water, and a dump station.

Zion National Park

From the rugged wilderness of sandstone cliffs to the rushing water of Virgin River, Zion National Park has something for every nature lover. Chase a thrill while canyoneering down Virgin River Narrows, or learn more about Zion’s history in the accessible Zion Human History Museum. Multiple on-site campgrounds offer tent and RV camping, though campers are advised to book ahead for the busy season from May to November. For a relaxed way to see the park, explore Zion’s park shuttles that visit prominent sites, including Zion Canyon and the Temple of Sinawava.

Grand Canyon National Park

An hour and a half south in Arizona, Grand Canyon National Park is home to one of the world’s most spectacular geological destinations. The Colorado River cuts through layers of red rock, where campers can hike in the uplands or drift along the river to admire the canyon from below. Free South Rim shuttle buses run from May to September, offering an accessible way to travel to hiking destinations like South Kaibab Trail. Backpacking and camping on the North and South Rims are available with a backcountry permit, and a range of other on-site campgrounds offer tent camping and limited hookup stations for RVs.

When to go

Camping near Kanab is most popular in September and October, when long days, mild temperatures, and minimal rainfall make for comfortable outdoor conditions. Summer temperatures often reach 110℉, so stock up on water and sunscreen. Wintertime lows in the high 40s keep this region comfortable for year-round camping with fewer crowds.
