Texas’ Sparkling City is the gateway to Gulf Coast beach camping.
With more than 100 miles of sandy shores and barrier islands stretching along the Gulf Coast, Corpus Christi makes an obvious choice for coastal campers. Ride the ferry to Mustang Island State Park to pitch your tent by the dunes, check into an RV park by North Beach, or hop out of your rig to go windsurfing and kitesurfing along the Laguna Madre. Bring your boat or your kayak to explore the Padre Island National Seashore, where you can take your pick of seafront campsites—tent campers and RVers with 4WD capacity can even camp right on the beach. When the mercury rises in summer, beachside campsites can fill up quickly, so book well in advance, but don’t write off a winter camping trip, either. The winter and spring migrations are peak season for bird watchers, and mild year-round temperatures mean you can pitch a tent through all four seasons.
