If you’re bringing horses, you’ll love the corrals and posts at Joaquin Miller Campground. Nearby, horse trails wind through the ponderosa forest. South of town, check out the four BLM campgrounds at Steens Mountain. Hike to stunning fall colors in Little Blitzen Gorge, or ride horses into the Big Indian Gorge canyons. In the Donner und Blitzen River, you can fish for redband trout. As you plan, keep in mind that most campsites near Burns are remote; many do not have cell service.
