We strive to create an environment for nature viewing, stargazing, fishing, and unwinding in nature as camping should be. Quiet time enforced 10pm-6am. Check in strictly 2-8pm. We do not allow late check ins. We meet and greet all guests.the historic pond was originally much smaller. We have records that date back to our 6th Great-Grandfather, Joab Fountain, who received a royal grant from the crown in 1773 for the property and then just a grist mill, blacksmith shop and old general store. The property was passed down through the Fountain family until the late 1910's. Originally a creek dammed up for the purpose of the mill it was later dug out in the late 1940's by Lee Baysden. The property also features 2 smaller ponds and surrounded by woods, swamp, and farmed fields, a total of 84 acres. Divided by Duplin and Onslow County line making it very unique! Chinquapin, NC The store/office is the original detached kitchen from his homeplace, which is the white house just up the street. We still use this today and it has Mr. Lee Baysden's handwriting in the store that states opened June 1956. The pond was owned and fished until the late 1990's. A hurricane damaged the dam and land was sold sometime after. The next owner dug the pond into the lake it is today and fixed the dam. In 2020 My husband Tyler, and I decided to buy the Pond Our camp office/store is opened most weekends or by check-in requests and fishing passes available 7 days a week online from sunrise-dark. Our lake features fishing for Bass, Crappie, Bream, Catfish, Bowfin, varieties of Panfish, and more. Check out our Facebook page (JCO Campground at Lee Baysden Pond) for all the latest news and catches! We have tagged bass that have been released back into the lake. Let us know if you catch one so we can record it! We are continually trying to make JCO and Lee Baysden Pond a great place in our community for friends and families! Saint Anne's Chapel and Oak Grove Retreat Center is a unique historical venue for your next camp site in the Tarboro area of North Carolina. The farm was originally established in 1832 by the Pender Family. On the current 25 acres is a restored 1920s Episcopal Mission Church with parklike grounds that is maintained year-round and has a rich and interesting history. We have host a wide variety of events over the years, including weddings, receptions, meetings, retreats, drum circles, sound healing's, festivals and more. Camping is available in the field or in the 17 acre woods. A common site for weddings, drum circles, and other metaphysical and spiritual happenings, the property has a labyrinth, a free expression chalkboard, a Zen sand box that are free to use.  A short walk down the wooded trail brings you to a small clearing with a central fire pit and several areas suitable for a tent. Situated close to a road, traffic can be heard but easily tuned out, particularly as the road gets much quieter at night. The woods are next to a large open field that is great for star gazing.  Bring your hammock!

Our little private campground is a hidden jewel in the making. Each campsite is private. We are not a parking lot like so many campgrounds are these days. We are still currently working on infrastructure but are willing to host campers that are self sufficient at a reduced rate for now. We do have a fun play ground, hiking trails, a steam we lovingly named Alligator Gore (to keep the little ones out of the mud). We are pet friendly. Each site has a fire ring or fire pit. We have a full bathroom available. We have a small camp store. We have group camp sites, pull through RV / Camper sites and a few glamping cabins. Located only 40 minutes from the NC coast and much more affordable and less crowded. We are still growing so we do not have a pool yet but will have one in the future. We do have a kids and youth program with weekly crafts and other activities. Picnic tables are available on some sites. Almost across the street is a wonderful boat ramp and fishing spot on the Cape Fear River. Canoe down to a sand bank about a mile down river and have a romantic picnic. A Celtic themed restaurant, the Mad Boar, is just a 10 minute drive if you are looking for a unique farm to table experience. And Duplin Winery is just 15 minutes away with tastings and tours. Located just 10 minutes from I-40 off US 41 we are easily found. A diamond in the rough.

Weekend Trip to JCO Campground at Lee Baysden Pond

Wonderful stay from pre-checkin to checkin to checkout! I wanted a quite relaxing but comfy stay surrounded by nature w a few creature comforts and the Cabin gave me just that. The view from the cabin is so serene. I enjoyed exploring the campgrounds w my pup and meeting some of the fellow campers. The Cabin is clean, well appointed, comfy bed w a splash of holiday cheer (based on when I stayed). Contessa is an outstanding host! I stayed on the grounds for my entire wkend stay but will checkout local attractions Contessa recommended during a future stay. JCO is a special place that’s easy to get to and not easy to forget; I’ll be back to get my overlanding on w my partner (he’s a frequent camper here). The JCO hype is legit!

We loved tent camping. Great amount of room. Great fire ring, more than enough firewood. Clean and well kept. Just a text away if you need anything. Wifi not available to all spots, they did say they are working on getting power and internet to all sites. The restroom and shower also clean. We will be going back.

My friends and I, 9 total, camped here for two nights and had the best time! The bathroom was nice, the picnic table and trash can were well kept and set up for us, and the neighboring sites weren’t close enough to be an issue. Would definitely come back!

My first night solo camping and I couldn't have picked a better spot! I camped in the forest behind the church and it's beautiful and peaceful. Composting toilets (and an outdoor shower) are just a short walk away. Kevin was friendly and very helpful. I'll definitely stay again when I'm in the area.

Oak Grove Retreat is truly a special place!!! I feel a profound sense of happiness and tranquility when I am there. The hosts consistently provide friendly service and create a welcoming atmosphere. The grounds are always well maintained, featuring beautiful moss covered trails, seasonal gardens and a lush forest. I have also enjoyed participating in several events there over the last few years and look forward to my next visit.

Beautiful location and setting, fantastic host, gorgeous cabin. Peaceful and perfect. Went for stargazing, but it rained so sat under an umbrella in front of the open fire place, serenaded by singing frogs. It was surreal and perfect.

Weekend Trip to Nick’s Nook

Nick's Nook was exactly what we needed - a safe place for my kids to play and explore and a comfortable, reliable place to camp for the weekend. After booking, I was immediately contacted by Ela, letting me know of additional amenities available by the date of our stay and important info to know. The campground was easy to find and located in a quiet area. Nick promptly greeted us upon check-in and showed us to our cabin. The cabin definitely allowed for the glamping experience with A/C, mini fridge, a light and lots of plug ins for my electrical devices, lock + key. The bed was comfy and place was free of bugs/issues Our site was rather spacious, with our own fire pit and firewood, canopy with picnic table. For my younger kids, there was a pool, new swingset, zip line, obstacle course, playground and lots of room to explore. They also had an onsite shower and bathroom + are 45 min from the beach. The neighbors at the campsite were adequately spaced from each other and we met some really nice folks, especially Nick and Ela's grandchildren. This whole family is so respectful and kind and easygoing. Also, there was a friendly dog and a few cats on site that my kids loved to play with. We also had record breaking temps and Nick brought us over a fan in addition to the a/c and ice pops. I highly recommend this site and we will absolutely be back again!

We usually tent camp at JCO Campground but chose the A frame for this trip. It was well worth it. The AC was blowing cold and the outdoor shower was amazing. Perfect for a couples getaway. We would highly recommend. And the the host were great as always.

Weekend Trip to The Cozy Heron Glamping

The wagons were so nice and conveniently located right near the restaurant and water. The beds were super comfy, and the room was so cozy. The AC worked perfectly keeping the place cool. The gas black stone grill was a nice surprise!! The staff kept the bath houses fully stocked with towels and other essentials. And the restaurant next door was a huge hit. The staff was lovely and very accommodating for our large crew of 17 for lunches and dinners. We will definitely be back!! We had the best time!

My family and I enjoyed staying at Swamp Rose wagon! The AC was so nice in the wagon, especially at night! The accessibility of the firewood was a nice touch. Absolutely beautiful!! The cabin was clean and smelled lovely. The lake sounds were so peaceful, you really feel one with nature. I’d suggest an eye mask if you are sensitive to light at night (from the AC, which was much needed and worked well).
