Camp by sandy beaches and scenic lakeshores in landlocked Nebraska.
Swimming, sunbathing, and sandy shores might not be the first thing that comes to mind when planning a camping trip in Nebraska, but the landlocked state boasts several lakeside beaches. Head to Lake McConaughy, Nebraska’s largest lake, where the Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area has white-sand beaches, boat and kayak launches, and ample space for tents and RVs at its three lakeside campgrounds. Calamus Reservoir, in the heart of the Sandhills, is another family favorite, with idyllic white sands, year-round fishing, and a choice of modern campgrounds. Or head north to Lewis & Clark Lake to enjoy lakeside camping, cabin rentals, and a pristine swimming beach. Looking for a beach break within a short drive of Omaha? Two Rivers State Recreation Area has swimming beaches, caboose cabin rentals, and seven campgrounds, while Fremont Lakes State Recreation Area has a sandy beach that draws crowds in the summer months.
